I'd imagine it has more to do with the likelihood of severe delays because of low visibility than concerns about the health of it's crew. After all, they could just stay in a hotel outside the city centre where the pollution is less. If anything, they should reduce the per diems because of what the...

I operate LAX/SFO-EWR flights rather often and am amazed at our load factors. Each and every flight I have flown has been full up front and in the back except for a night we were swapped to a 764. Christmas came early for non revs that night.
