Actually, I wonder how that tower controller coped after that accident. He was picture perfect in his handling of the situation, dispatching emergency vehicles, holding and vectoring all his aircraft as well. He doesn't really stop for about 5 minutes.

ANA 787 Evac - Door 4L

Just noticed on the pictures of the ANA 787 evacuation that door 4L was not used (door closed - slide not deployed).
Do they run reduced crews on domestic flights?

According to the videos shot by passengers this definitely didn't seem to cause any issues with the speed of the evacuation.

The Tigre/Gazelle pair worked very well over Libya. But those were night-time ops only... I guess sending them out during daylight may have been a mistake, reports are coming out that AQMI have some pretty heavy equipment they seized from Libya, and their organisation/shooting is better than anticip...

French Gazelle Shot Down In Mali

A french gazelle belonging to the 4th helicopter special forces regiment (based in Pau) was shot down in Mali.
Was apparently returning from a fire support mission when it was hit by small arms fire, the pilot was fatally wounded.

all on board confirmed dead.

mid-air break-up confirmed as plausible, witnesses saw a parachute come down, it was identified as the survival kit (liferaft) that was ejected during the suspected break-up.

Black boxes have been retrieved.
