Its not possible. Why should they refund your money? You enter a contract upon payment of you tickets. The airline is obliged to bring you from A to B. They certainly will not refund you any money. Look at it this way, say you bought a digital camera for 500$, a few weeks later it's on special offer...

This could also be a medical diversion.
Tech and medical (about 2,500 people die each year on aircraft, mostly from strokes...) diversions do occur regularly, and, as you pointed out, KEF is an obvious choice on trans-atlantic flights.
