What Chinese competition? Link? AFAIK There's only the Comac C919 - a narrowbody competitor to the 737 and A320, currently in development hell, and the CR929, a JV with the Russians aimed at the 787/A350 by the look of it. After reading airlinepilotforums.com a bit, my initial opinion is this: Although the fuel dump may have been unnecessary, there may be a legitimate context in the cockpit which necessitated the dump making it excusable/unavoidable. ... so in other words: we simply don’t know what happened as of yet.
