If You Don't Take Your Connecting Flight.....

Let's say, for the sake of discussion, I buy a one way ticket from DCA-GSP connecting in CLT. The DCA-GSP fare is much less expensive than a DCA-CLT fare. But, where I want to go may be a bit more convenient to CLT. So, I just don't get on the CLT-GSP segment. What happens?

Not to minimize anything at all, but it is an interesting paradox in that the severe clear that allowed the hijackers to easily navigate to their targets also, I've heard mentioned many times, absoloutly helped with the safe implementation of ATC Zero following the attacks.
