It started at 3 or 4x week, and now is at 6 or 7x. LAS is a hit with UKers, when I go down to the strip (infrequently I'll admit) I always manage to run into tons of folks with English accents.

Jump to postThe "every two months" prediction for the subsequent A/C to be used for EIS just doesn't jive. I have a really hard time believing that the suppliers aren't going to get any better at all during this process. It might be two months between first flights for One and Two, but extremely unlikely for be...
Jump to postSo IAD787 posted his newest entry on the 787 progress. Its interesting, there is no more room in the hangars for another 787. You figure Boeing would have set it up so that they could have put 3 A/C in there (there are three stations right? or four?). The only real positive I can take away is that t...
Jump to postI figured there probably wasn't a whole lot of interest in a website about airline meals.
Jump to postAm I the only one who thinks they'll stay away from the -3? If you load a -3 up with pax+cargo as much as you can, the range goes down to 1250nm. Out of JFK, its not enough. Out of <acronym ti...
Jump to postSo if the A380 is "too" quiet, A can just install white noise generators.
Jump to postSo the common wisdom was its 6 weeks from power on to first flight, right? Aug 25 + 6W is Oct 6.
Jump to postThank God, I'm so sick of the 787 window threads.
YES, they are BIGGER. Here is the proof.
The D2 fuse pic is really cool actually. Good to hear they're installing ductwork and such before the unit gets to Boeing.
What if AA both buys some 787s and leases more from ILFC? Say, 25 each to start with? With more options and purchase rights. The main thing I see is if the economy bails or oil goes up (or both) and air travel slumps, <acronym title="American Airlin...
Jump to postNot unless I take the first flight of the morning (7AM). Otherwise its usually late after that.
There was a news bit today that said this was the worst year for on-time flights in 13 years.
I don't think airlines will give up frequency unless someone makes them. Congress, airports, FAA someone. What i'd like to see is having wb aircraft on call in bad weather to get everyone where they're supposed to go without stranding people overnight. Of course that wont happen either because airli...
Jump to postI always thought the problem with the 783s for AA was that fuel + cargo + pax limited its range to something less than what is needed for <acronym title="New York - John F. Jump to postHAL, did you ever finish your book? You were writing one, right?
Thanks for the amazing report. And a great job avoiding disaster.
I must have missed this, but why? 73G limitations? Or just low load factors...

Jump to postRedwood, nice double entendre there. Did anyone know that Virgin America is having a contest for this online tech news website called digg (www.digg.com). I'm sure that the folks at the airline call it a virgin for virgins.
Jump to postWN has some of the best paid people in the industry - there was just a post about senior employees getting a $25,000 buyout offer. So it makes sense that they're trying to control their costs.
Jump to postDont forget NFR (national finals rodeo) is the second week in December, that might be the reason some are Dec. only (that and snowbirds).
Jump to postHeh, I remember flying a 727 (-200 I think) into BUF in 1990. It'd be nice to see some big metal return to western NY.
Jump to postIf I was a new owner/lessor of a plane, much like buying a new house I'd have it inspected, perhaps a C check? At that rate, I might as well swap out engines if I can and so desire. 15 days does seem like too long and not worth it, however one day might not be worth what it would cost. 3-5 days seem...
Jump to postIndeed, they're just LEDs and the control circuitry. Any airline that skips the $5,000 LED mood lighting system on a $150M (or whatever) plane is nuts. Maybe skip them on 783s where the max flight time isnt that lon...
Jump to postThat travelocity ad could NEVER be played in the US. Too touchy about homosexuals the US is.
Jump to postI think the very frequent fliers will see some benefits - it just makes sense. The new X group gets to board first. The biggest issue is how to handle it - do they add a separate line or just will there be so few (10 or less per flight) its just not worth it to build an X line and they just call it ...

Jump to postHmmm, so do we see a Rapid Rewards Gold level for frequent travelers who get to board before A? That would be the optimal way to keep turn around times short (and not have assigned seating) as well as reward business travelers.

Jump to postI thought Boeing said the parts were coming in underweight. Not that will fix everything, but the first frames might be less overweight.
And also, from what I remember, the test planes get refurbed and then sent to customers. But they arent necessarily the first delivered (Line #7 might be).
I've actually thought about starting a consulting business to do that for taiwan-based computer parts companies - to go through their literature before printing to clean it up.

Jump to postIt sorta reminds me of a 739 w/o winglets. The 783 is going to look like a 737 on steroids. The engines reminds me of a 757 - the way they're huge in comparison to the A/C.
