Jet is planning on removing First class from its 777s. Appears that they have very little occupancy on flights other than London. Should have done this earlier itself. Also, if it cannot get good load factors on F from hubs in DEL and BOM, shows the poor appeal of F in India. Better to go for only ...Jump to post
There is a news out there saying that EK has initiated talks on opening a new destination in India. Railways is even planning to shut premium trains on 1500+ km routes, which take atleast 24 hours, compared to 2 or less by jets. http://m.timesofindia.com/city/chennai/airlines-up-railways-show-50-increase-passengers-in-2-yrs/articleshow/59718222.cms This ridiculous fascination with shutting down I...Jump to post

I agree, there are too may new threads being started for AI and 9W/DL.
Regardless of what the travel policies are, in reality, the premium travel is really a very small market. Easiest comparison is JFK-LAX/SFO. There is quiet a bit of jostling here with multiple models tried out. Yet, the only model that could be scaled-up was the JetBlue model out of Boston and to a...Jump to post
PE was earlier not working because most Indian companies don't recognize it as a class of travel, and thus it wasn't an option for official travelers who are reimbursed by thier co. Not sure if this was mentioned earlier: AI ending DME this month. http://www.routesonline.com/news/38/airlineroute/273719/air-india-ends-moscow-service-in-july-2017/ That was a surprise; would have made sense to extend the service to IAH. my suspicion is that the limited number of 77L frames (5x for AI) doesn't permit the carrier to add a domestic leg to the route. It's also probably not entirely necessary to add on a tag since this is a capital-to-capital route whereby most of the traffic will be originating or terminating in DEL? ...Jump to post

Umm, but questions about 9W's financing, at least initial, still remain. Anyway, the large point is that it should have gone beyond thinking like 'Not Air India' but with a limited pot of money. This is going to be the more likely scenario. Had to watch it in two parts. Just reached where Delta is expressing sadness that they don't fly to India. They stopped their two US-BOM fligts in 2008 (JFK) and 2009 (ALT). At that point the ME3 was tiny in the US. Those flights were not stopped because of ME3 competition. This is just wrong. Also...Jump to post
Indigo's interest is a little intriguing. Why would a well run airline with simple homogeneous fleet and young aircraft, who get aircrafts at probably one of best rates in the world, be interested in a complex blackhole called Air India? I get slots, but buying Air India may still not be worth it. ...Jump to post

Tata is partnering with LM to shift F16 production line to India, along with jobs. I expect them to go with Boeing for Vistara to appease US govt. Are they? That much over that long is a government subsidy. All it takes is one trade war with one country suing at the WTO to bring an instant end. The rhetoric of selling Air India by the government of India will come once every 20 years.
73 of 115 aircraft at Air India are narrowbodies. How can the be primarily an international carrier anymore? A decade+ past the merger it is time to let it go and treat both sides as one. AI depends on domestic connections for international, so there really isn't any separation potential. Lightsabe...Jump to post
Surprisingly, the property sell-off also has been a bust. I think that depends on what properties they are selling.
