Jump to postIs Hop! for AirFrance not a little wrong? This sounds like an order to their customers to jump when they see an AirFrance plane. Should it not be "by AirFrance"?

Jump to postLooking at the Tesla Roadster electric car for example, I find it interesting that the individual cells are so small in their design, yet they still use an active cooling and heating system to control the individual battery packs. Even the space between each cell seems much larger in relation to the...
Jump to postThe huge advantage of those old planes is that there is no capital expenditure. Those planes are paid for. It means you can even have the luxury of parking one of those as a fleet reserve at your hub and use it if another plane has a technical.
Jump to postThe big thing about the 2 events is that the first event was pretty normal. The battery failed, but the containment did work acceptable. Surely there was some damage around the battery, but that would have required some modifications, but nothing to ground the plane. The big event was the second in ...

Jump to postOne defect points to a faulty battery, 2 defects point to a more complex problem, unless you can find a third battery from the same production batch that shows a developing defect in line with the faults you have recorded so far. Jump to postI think the problem is that if we combine the 2 events, there is a theoretical possibility for a major problem in the 787. In first failure the containment worked, the battery burned itself out, the gases were vented - more or less as designed I would say. In the second case the electrolytes did not...
Jump to postI think it is too early to call for actions, when the cause of the problem is still unknown.
Jump to postDelays because Dassault does not produce two.seaters? That sounds strange.

Jump to postThank you for many informative replies. I am sorry I got many facts wrong (like believing there are other battery packs in the rack). Looking into the presented facts about the incident, I now believe that the second incident is the one that forced the FAA to act, as the flammable liquid escaped the...

Jump to postAnybody who callas the FAA morons for that grounding is a moron. An in-flight fire which can not be put down by any means available on the plane is a huge risk. The battery failing is not a huge problem, the failure mode is. Just read up how long the fire department in Boston needed to kill the fire...
Jump to postFire protection against a burning li battery is moot anyway. Either the containment keeps the fire under control or not. You would need to cover the battery in dirt or maybe some long lasting foam to extinguish the flames. Both options are not possible for a plane.
Jump to postMy most sincere condolences. A tragic loss for the aviation photography and spotting community.
Jump to postI am sure a.net and DM will fix this. A.net has done so much for our hobby, that it would be sad to see the site getting into trouble.
