Just was looking at the web site for the Elkhart Air Show. They list a B-52 as one of the static display aircraft. The longest runway at EKM is 6,500. Can they put a B-52 in there?

The aircraft was TWA B727-31 N840TW and it did happen on April 4, 1979 over Saginaw. It went from 39,000 to 5,000 in 63 seconds. There was some damage to the aircraft and an emergency landing was made at DTW.

Can you believe that until after 9/11 quite a few areas of the airport had no fences. Down by hangar two which is where most of the aircraft were parked we would just walk out on the ramp and take pictures. Now everything is fenced in and security is much tighter. Australian National and KLM both operated the DC-5. The Breguet BR 761/763/765 Deux Ponts was mainly operated by Air France. Air Algerie and Silver City each operated one briefly on lease. I think only about 20 were built.

If you are talking DC-8s I think you would be limited to Arrow Air, ATI or Murray Air or Astar. I don't think Airborne/DHL or UPS charters out their aircraft. Please let us know what shows up.

I think everyone is missing something here as far as the DC-8s go. There are no series 63 and 70 passenger aircraft left. The best way to find out is to contact the airport that you are interested in and ask them. Send them a letter or email and ask where at the airport are you allowed to watch aircraft. If you receive a reply be sure to take it with you when you go.

A DC-8. I've just never been in the right place to get on one. Seems like when I have flown somewhere the only airlines flying there didn't operate DC-8s. The only chance I have now is a cockpit ride in a freighter and my chances of that are slim and none.
