Re: ETIAS - The EU version of ESTA. Tourism impact?

Of course it's not about the money, it's about reciprocity. Personally I think all 3 (ESTA US, ETA Canada, and ETIAS EU) are pointless.

Who actually get the revenue from ETIAS? Could be nice little earner for the European Commission, and may even cover Juncker's bar bill.

As a travel agent I'm well aware of this, and it happens all the time. There are plenty of times I could save clients some money - like last week I had a client fly one way in First class AUH to LHR on EY. The one way ticket was just under €7k. VS have long since had interline agreements with BE (eg. EXE MAN BGI, AMS MAN BGI) and shock horror even with BA (eg AMS LHR BGI, LIS LHR BGI). My point is, they already had a deal in place to provide feed to VS flights long before this deal was done. I wish BE luck, of course.

My take on this is that Joon was set up to pressure the AF unions, and that was all. Joon employees were under totally different contracts. Libyan Arab had been trying to buy Airbus for some time, but US sanctions against Libya meant that unless they wanted planes without engines, that was going to be tricky.
