The 717 fills a niche role in the DL network; there are going to be a lot of small and mid-sized markets in the southeast, northeast and midwest that will lose mainline service. Yes. They are management material. I know all five of them in my station. FAs are not doing any work in the kitchen, here. Only in the tower. They handle close-to-departure catering issues that arise, and prevent actual management from having to step in when FAs are trying to hold departure for cat...

Mainline DC-9 service on routes like MEM-GPT also seemed like overkill, even at that time.


I worked in MEM for a little bit in the late '90's. A lot of those flights carried a lot of mail/freight.
