I have yet to run the same numbers on A321 for International, it could be the perfect aircraft to replace the intl. RE: HUDs On 777X Cockpit?

Akiss20, yes I am sorry but I worded that incorrectly. What I meant was (my understanding) that it allows crew to operate to lower minimums or operate precision approaches at less equipped airfields. I think Alaska Airlines pioneered some of these procedures.

RE: HUDs On 777X Cockpit?

I think its considered less usefull in bigger aircraft as they tend to operate out of better equipped airfields, but that said there are exceptions, say, EK who might operate a 777-300 into airports with no ILS at all, or limited nav aids. Different design philosophies? I dont know the answer to that one. If it is an option, it would be interesting to see how many Airbus widebody operators have chosen them. I dont recall seeing many pictures of 330340380 with them.

RE: HUDs On 777X Cockpit?

I believe it had something to do with the fact that the HUD is most usefull when flying into airports without full CAT3 ability, or other precision aids, allowing crew to visually fly CAT23 - the 777, being much larger, pretty much always flys to airports with such equipment. Same goes for 748. I co...

RE: Will The 7778X And 9 Have A Taller Landing Gear?

Remember guys, if the larger wing allows a lower takeoff speed, this might explain why a slightly taller tail is needed to counteract engine-out with
lower airflow over the tail at rotation. The lower takeoff speed might also result in no need to change the gear.

RE: Limitations On A Heavy Twin Out Of Johannesburg

I realized I was factoring in an obstacle incorrectly. After re-doing the calculation, I get: 230 pax + bags = 22,310kg payload. Using an OEW of 90,011kg we get ZFW of 112,321kg. According to calculations, fuel required is 70,300kg. This results in a TOW of 182,321kg - within the MTOW of 186,880kg. ...

Looking at those pics more closely I will admit they seem a bit low on the 3 degree angle. I would think more to maximize available runway on a short field, rather than putting on a show.
