Sometimes precheck is closed and everyone has to go to the other line. Most of the "non-sustainable " practices are the things that have won them a loyal customer base.
The use of just 737 is more an internal issue. If and when the airline sees the use of other aircraft to be to their advantage, they can change. I don't think the customers will care at all.
I had two such ground stops in the last 30 days. Both lasted about two hours, one at DEN and one at ORD. Thunderstorms. Both had all airlines stopped; I was on UA. Ground crews don't work outdoors during thunderstorms.
