Is it me or does it seem like UPS copys everything Fedex does? Airbus's now MD 11's. If they get the extra china slots they should put a 747 on them flights anyway.The MD 11 is a great freighter....

Did you here Boeing might convert up to 30 MD 11's for UPS, and a few 747's too. I wonder where they will come from ??? Fedex has allready secured all of AA's and Swiss Airs ??? Maybe Delta,KLM,???

i think you will find that most of the seats are filled with non-rev's, my wife works at the indy hanger and we drive to ORD to fly . its to hard to get back , when you have to compete with 50 or better non-rev's flying back to work in IND.

dtw wasn't that bad until the northwest-republic merger in the early 80's, it went way down hill after that. but if you can belive it ... its better than it was. i flew to dtw once from sdf and i had to wait longer for a gate than the flight time was ??? i just hope things change for the better afte...

aaron, airport noise is a hot topic, i love airplanes and work for fedex, i was involved with testing the fedex 727 huskit , i think alot of people in aviation think people move near an airport and then start to complain, that's no true in all cases, in the DTW area my parents live closer to the air...

the dc-10 -30 has -50 g.e. engines instead of the cf6-6's on the -10's it also has a center landing gear to support the larger center fuel tank, the -40 is the same as the -30 except it has P&W engines. there are more things that are different but those are the main things.

cdg & anc are the big ones , the cdg flight starts in ind and goes around the world and comes back from anc , starting this spring there going to send one around the other way too. you might start seeing atlas air flying for fedex out of ind soon too.

hey ata757, f.y.i. fedex skipped the n666 tail # on thier a300-600's , the tail numbers start at n650fe- n684fe but there is no n666 fe, i guess big corp's have hang ups too.

wow, its good to here a pilot sweat his job, i remember when the usair pilots went on strike and nobody crossed thier line, but when the mechanics went out the pilots kept on flying, i read the other day that a delta 777 capt. makes 21k per month? something like $275.00 per hour. that makes me sick....

md should have made a 2 eng md-12, simular in size to a 777 then it would have been just like the early 60's when the 707's and dc-8's slugged it out for market share, they could of had the same cockpits etc. but they didn't ....too bad.

The MD-11 has one big problem the #2 eng. having to feed the extra engine for the same pax's as a 777 or 767-400. just don't add up. Where the MD-11 is perfect is as a freighter, the extra power of the #2 eng. means more payload, Fedex, KAL, EVA, Lufthansa, all like the MD-11 as a freighter. it will...

I heard that Fedex is looking to replace their 727-100's with 737-300's . I think this would be a good replacement , with the addition of the cargo door of course. The -100's can't gone on for ever .....

all the weight on a wing eng. pylon is on the fwd mount. we have to sometimes do what is called a "hard over inspection " that is, if a pilot for some reason pushes hard down on the elevators this will cause the eng's. and pylons to bend up. this area of inspection is on the "tombstone" fitting that...

as my handle says...i'm a dc-10 guy ... on a md-11 the winglets do deduce the fuel burn on really long flights, i think its more like what Iainol says ... thier for looks anyway.... which just shows you the dc-10 had it right in the first place.... no winglets are needed.

thats true ... and a CO- america west (don't know awa's code) match up would work prety good. if awa gets bought by CO, i think american or untied would buy alaska airlines. i wish i had the cash for a ameritrade account ... i would buy awa and alaska stock.... but i don't,so i won't .... high fuel ...

the dc-8 that just crashed in calif. was an ex-untied -71 ... all of delta's -71's are at UPS and uniteds went to emery, southern air, and i don't know where else ...kitty hawk flys -62 series 8's and emery has some -62's too.... this past x-mas i saw some -55's but i'm wondering if thier all ground...

i can't tell you why ... but i can tell you that the windows on the "8" are at least 3/4 " thick and are very strong, they can also be polished over and over again... un-like a boeing cabin window that is removed when it gets too scracted/crazed etc.the dc-8 window stays in for along time....ahhh dc...

the lift system for the galleys is bolted in pretty good i don't think its very "convertable" i know that the freighter models have a bigger fwd. lwr. cargo door because there is no galley there. i'll ask around and see what i can find out too.

AS I'M SURE YOU KNOW THE DC-10 HAS HAD ALOT OF PROBLEMS, LIKE CRASHES. AND THE PRESS ALLWAYS PLAYS UP ANY DC-10 EVENT.... HOWEVER I CAN TELL YOU THAT THE DC-10 IS A VERY WELL BUILT AIRCRAFT . ALL THOU IT STARTED OUT WRONG ,TODAY IT HAS TO BE ONE OF THE SAFEST PLANES FLYING.
