what a joke The issue is Eastern cannot compete in any market with competitors. B6 got approval for a second daily JFK-GYE that will probably kill Eastern's yields on JFK-GYE. And, If AA decides to return to ASU, right now the 788 is too much plane, but I could see something like a MIA-ASU-MVD-MIA ...

Another route cancelled:.

Effective July 11th and after roughly a year of operations, MIA-GYE will be no more. New Yotk JFK - Guayaquil GYE will continue to operate.

lets see how long it lasts... If ASU is any indication, they should do well at MVD, at least during the southern winter. The former was just increased to 3x week, up from 2x. Both markets have consistent demand to the US but not the high yielding one that makes for a profitable year-round operation...

So can we take that news as good news considering the IL96s have been working regularly? Who knows? Cubana is not run as a business and neither is Cuba a regular country, so oftentimes trying to make sense of their movements can be disconcerting. It is not clear why the need to bring more capacity ...

Why hasn't Cubana renewed its fleet all these years with Airbus/Boeing/Embraer jets? Are there sanctions against Cuba like Iran? There´s been an US economic embargo to Cuba since the 1960s. Pretty much every plane they could get their hands on (except for classic Soviet planes) falls under the term...
