Lets see when the actual contract is signed.

Re: Reuters:Airbus ready to phase out A380 if fails to win Emirates deal

Why not, if one needs one. All air frames will see the end of production. If you buy one, you can expect the airframer to be there the next 20 years if you need spare-parts or service. Same reason EK is hesitating if not refusing to buy new ones without concessions: the price of those spare parts g...

Re: U.S. Dept of Commerce backs Boeing in dispute with Bombardier

I just take from this an incentive for Airbus to take over the project completely. Develop a CS500 sold at to a small launch Customer in the home market(where ever that is now) at an obscenely low price so as to get around one of the accusations of dumping in a foreign market, let Airbus push all c...

Re: Iran Aseman Airlines signs contract for 60 Boeing 737 Max

I will ask the question again, given the Islamic customer, does anyone know if the particular Boeing finance package is sharia based? Can I ask, what is sharia based? limits the interest that can be charged on a loan. Its fairly easy to avoid, by charging things other than interest. You don't think...

Maybe WN wants to keep the option to a buy a better 130 seater (C Series) at a later time? If by better you mean worse, then sure. At WN's fleet size, there is no possible way a C series would be cheaper to fly than a Max-7. Not sure how on earth the fleet size can make the Max-7 better than the C-...

Re: Southwest orders more 737 Max 8s and defers 737 Max 7s

I do expect WN to buy -7 MAX. I just do not expect many. There will be no resale market (it is the new 736) and so the cash nature of purchases (financed by bonds to keep cash flow healthy) will limit quantities. Lightsaber I'm not sure it needs to for WN. They have much better access to other peop...

Re: Will WN ever operate an Airbus aircraft?

I've said it once, I've said it a million times. Southwest needs a smaller plane to hit more markets in the US! There is still money here that they can tap but a lot of stations/city pais can't support a 73G in the Southwest configuration. why? The smaller markets are less profitable. Even better, ...

Re: U.S. Dept of Commerce backs Boeing in dispute with Bombardier

By that metric, the first 400 787 were dumped on the market . . . which to some extent is true, but to some extent is not of course. Mainly because it ignores the industry problem of high up-front cost - both in terms of R&D, and in terms of high initial production cost starting up the industri...

Re: Reuters:Airbus ready to phase out A380 if fails to win Emirates deal

I suspect that a 380 could fly for a long time, some airlines have used planes for 25 years. Is there any reason why a 380 could not do the same? 12 years and out always struck me as not all that sensible (in most cases). I was just asking because SQ retired its first A380 at 10 years of age. When ...

Re: Airbus A380 MidLife Upgrade, 2021?

I think the real answer is a whole new wing and wing box designed for the A388 length and a 550 tons MTOW. Not the current silly sized A389 sized thing it has. Might even be able to drop the MTOW more depending on the wieghts savings and fuel burn advantage. More cargo space increases revinue flexib...

Re: Why did the A350-800 fail?

You want a key reason that has nothing to do with A vs B? A359 is your answer. The A359 is simply superior to the A358 in all but a very narrow area in operating economics. The overall economics the A359 wins hands down because banks will lend you more for less if you are buying a A359 vs A358 due t...

The new minimum for the class is East Coast to West Coast USA in high seasonal winds without stopping. Well it was the same back when the 737 was designed, only the 727 was the Boeing product in this "class" The 737 was a cheaper short ranged plane for regional use. Technology marches on a...

Re: Is the 737-MAX8 too big for Cayman Airways?

Any 737 NG could do these routes without even trying. Even a 736. Going for a 737-8 MAX is overkill. Like I said earlier I believe gently used 73G would have suited them very well. They would have gotten roughly an additional 9-12 seats, while increasing their range and possible payload. For rather...

They might not have been able to get the 7max financed. I'd expect a "Y+" interior spacing given the size jump, and they should be far more profitable given more potential seats and cargo sales, coupled with lower operating costs.

The actuator would have to be much bigger/stronger and thus heavier. As the wingtip deployed downwards it would start to create lift - acting against the actuator. For the 777X version the actuator only has to lift the weight of the wingtip against gravity. I would think this would make in flight a...

The Freighter will be designed for a weight/balance including the nose door, so removing the nose door would require that weight to be returned to the nose for proper handling.
