Volaris adds SMF-BJX 2x/wk beginning Nov 20, 2018. Service is in addition to existing SMF-GDL flights 6x/wk.Jump to post
Any idea what gate frontier will be operating out of? I’m assuming B11 as that’s the only unused gate currently at the airport. Any anyone know the shuffle occurring on terminal A? I noted delta started using A13 which was previously used by American. Did they swap gates or is this temporary dude t...Jump to post

Volaris will launch twice-weekly, year-round nonstop service between SMF and Leon/Bajio (BJX) beginning November 20th. Flights will operate on Tuesday/Friday evenings northbound with a post-midnight redeye return on Wednesday/Saturdays. The BJX flights are in addition to Volaris' existing SMF-GDL se...Jump to post
Numbers are in and June 2018 set a record for greatest number of pax ever served at SMF in a single-month, is the second straight month of greater than 1 million pax, and is 10th straight month of double-digit, year-over-year growth. 1,088,918 pax walked through the gates at Sacramento Internationa...Jump to post

Dailly A321neo service beginning April 1, 2019 in addition to existing daily SMF-HNL service.
Could, could, could! People, we're talking about a schedule release for Jan/Feb 2019. It's the middle of winter. Where is the logical strategy in WN adding any flights ex-IAD unless they were to Florida during that time of year. I mentioned WN possibly adding LAX-IAD, OAK-IAD, and SJC-IAD nonstop s...Jump to post
Rumor has it, MDW-DSM and MDW-IAD to be resumed. I agree that WN could bring back nonstop service to IAD out of MDW. In addition, WN could also add IAD-LAX, IAD-OAK, and IAD-SJC nonstop service in order to better compete against AS in California. Many of the high-tech businesses in the Washington, ...Jump to post
^^^ It amazes me how many people go to Hawaii for vacation. It’s treated as the ‘Holy Grail’ of places to go for so many Americans... I’ve never quite figured this out. It’s not exotic at all. Weather is good, and lots of beaches, sure. But what is the huge draw that fills all these flights day in ...Jump to post

SMF handled over one million passengers in May. This marks the first time since July 2007 that SMF has surpassed the one million passenger mark in a single month. The exact figure is 1,052,098. Passenger traffic was up 12.3% yoy on a seat capacity increase of 11.8% yoy. Excellent start to the busy s...Jump to post
Yeah, OAK is the real layup for WN. With the VX acquisition, AS should consider pulling out of OAK-Hawaii and concentrate on SFO and SJC where they can compete more effectively. SMF is no big deal. Only 1 flight anyway. SAN and SJC are the places where it'll get interesting if there is room for bot...Jump to post
Sacramento International Airport has been on a roll lately! New daily nonstop service on Southwest to Austin, Orlando and St. Louis, and Air Canada will be launching daily n/s service to YVR beginning May 17th. Terminal B is actually pretty full, but there is still some room. B6 has moved over from A recently, and you also have AM, AS, HA, WN, Y4, and soon to be AC. The western WN gates (B12-23) have high utilization as well as some of the eastern gates (B4-11) IIRC. A is actually pretty busy at peak time...Jump to post
Would be nice to see DTW-SMF on Delta the O/D traffic certainly suggests it's viable. DTW is a priority market for reinstatement, most likely as a seasonal redeye (EB) on Delta during summer months. SMF-PHL is actually the largest unserved O&D market for SMF at present. AA is best poised to rei...Jump to post

CEC-SMF would be a better route. Important to link the state capital with the geographically isolated Del Norte county. Much more synergy given government traffic. Southwest doesn't interline with Contour, so very limited connecting opportunities for CEC passengers at OAK.Jump to post
New WN schedule release on Feb 15 covers the period Aug 7 - Oct 1, 2018. Height of hurricane season, so I wouldn't predict any major growth in hurricane prone areas (e.g. Florida, Caribbean, Houston). Hopefully the new PNE routes (5 flights) will be announced. Seems too early to announce Hawaii sche...Jump to post
The O&D market for PDX-ANC is just fine. I don't think B6 will suffer if WN were to add this route... There's not unlimited demand between PDX and ANC. Of course B6 would suffer with another entrant on the route. Fortunately for them, if WN is going to start ANC it's going to be from somewhere ...Jump to post
A second destination to the LA basin would be nice, even though ONT failed a long time ago. BNA is actually one of the top destinations traveled to from ONT that is not currently served nonstop from ONT, and there is an average of 114 passengers who traveled between BNA and ONT in Q2 2017. In addit...Jump to post
If the woman was in poor health and/or needed assistance, why didn't another family member travel with her? If she refused assistance after arrival in PDX, then I believe the airline's liability stopped there. Deliberately driving an electric chair onto an escalator shows lack of logical judgment.Jump to post
None of BUF, ROC, SYR, and ALB have nonstop service to DFW. Heck, Upstate New York doesn't have any nonstop service to Texas whatsoever. It completely baffles me as to why. Didn't all but ALB have DFW service about a decade ago, the SYR-DFW flight being on an E145 pushed to its limits? I remember A...Jump to post

Geographically, the next best place for AS to go will be MSP, they already have a decent customer base and pretty decent operation, the question though is going to be, who is going to lose gates in order to make this happen? Agreed. AS could cash-out their DAL gate holdings, transfer to DCA & L...Jump to post
One odd observation, generally all network carriers did better in Florida and improved over time, with the exception of Southwest. I noticed that as well. Southwest's numbers are pretty bad. Not sure they will remain in the market with those load factors. Can't imagine the yields are high enough to...Jump to post
jplatts - a bit of advice. You should be more strategic in terms of what you post on this forum, both in content and brevity. Explain the rationale behind what you're proposing. A daily JAL NRT-SMF 787 flight would nicely complement JAL's existing SFO-HND flight and round-out JAL's service to NorCal. Would reduce passenger leakage from the SMF catchment area to SFO for Asia-bound traffic.Jump to post
When figuring in leakage passengers to the Bay Area, esp. SFO, SMF could likely support nonstop to service Asia and Europe.Jump to post
With a population reach of 5.6 million within a 100-mile radius of ALB, and an excellent interstate highway in all four directions, n/s/e/w, ALB should catch the attention of some LCC airline for nonstop service to Europe, be that Norwegian, Ryanair, WOW or another carrier. http://flyalbany.com/uplo...Jump to post

ALB has a population reach of 5.6 million residents within a 100-mile radius. Norwegian would be wise to consider ALB for TATL NB service. Also the interstate network stretches N/S/E/W and provides convenient access in all directions
