The 727 is one of the best jets ever! Great looking plane! 727 RULES!!!!!!! Too bad because of the recent events, they will not be around much longer. <img src="/discussions/graphics/frown.gif" ALT="Sad"> (they'll still be around for a while, Delta hasn't said anything about retiring them any ...Jump to post
I haven't been in a scrapped plane, and I've (for some reason) never been to an airport where they are held. For some reason to me, I think that would be a sinking feeling going inside a torn up plane (unless it were in pretty good condition, or temporarily stored, going to another airline, etc.) De...Jump to post
As Flashmeister mentioned, USAirways A330s have the Sony [email protected] system. I got to expierience it PHL-CDG and back last year, and it ROCKS!!!!!!! <img src="/discussions/graphics/biggrin.gif" ALT="Big grin"> <img src="/discussions/graphics/biggrin.gif" ALT="Big grin"> Long Live USAirways So...Jump to post
I forgot all about "Pushing Tin", "Airport '75", and "Airplane!" Those are all good movies. (Airplane was on about 15 min. ago.) VapourTrails- If you want to see a movie w/ the Concorde, Airport '79 is the only one I know of. It's a little wierd, and the Concorde is destroyed at the end, but overall...Jump to post
Executive Decision was pretty good, but they messed up some details of the plane, like there is no lower galley on the 747-200 (to my knowledge), and all the flight manuals say "Boeing 747-400, " when the plane is actually a 747-200. There are also some F-14 and F-117 sequences if that's your thing....Jump to post
The only problem is how long will it take to retire them all. Retiring 172 DC-9s will take a while, unless they retire a ton at a time. Plus they were refurbished and hush-kitted recently which could keep them here a while. They have already retired some (if not all) of their DC-9-10s. 717 wouldn't ...Jump to post
EMB-120 (my all-time fav. turboprop)
757-200 (medium haul, but i don't care, its still my fav. twin jet)
I also sort of like the:
Canadair Regional Jet
Dornier 328 (turboprop, ive haven't been on the jet... yet!)
I agree with Chepos- MCO is almost at the attractions, while Sanford is in the middle of nowhere.
Other than International charters, Aeropostal, and Pan Am, are there any scheduled carriers that go into Sanford that don't go into MCO?
The last time I was on an F-100 was PHL-CMH last year on USAir. I find nothing wrong with them. They're a little small, but comfortable, and the engines weren't that bad either. One thing I noticed was from where I was sitting (in the back, we missed our DC-9 connection after coming back from CDG) I...Jump to post
Thanks to everybody for your help! I never thought of Air New Zealand, from what I'm hearing, their economy class seat is awesome!! That may not be a bad idea. When Qantas installs their PTVs (if they put them in in time) I wonder if they will be better than US Airways A330s PTVs, those are hard to ...Jump to post
My three favorite planes are the L-1011, the 727, and the 757. My best flight on the L-1011 was in Oct. 1998. I got to see the lower galley after the flight, thanks to the great flight crew <img src="/discussions/graphics/smile.gif" ALT="Smile"> The flight was DL 1468- TPA-ATL I wish I knew th...Jump to post
I was on the Concorde in 1995 on a special exhibition flight out of CMH. It took us out of Columbus, over Lake Erie, and back in. The cabin is sleek and elegant. but cramped. It's like riding in a 1,350 mph limousine!
By the way, I was 7 when I was on the Concorde- I went with my mom.
They should have had guns for pilots from the start, so hijackings could be prevented (or at least tried to be stopped.) Bringing Sky marshals back is a pretty good idea, but how many would each plane carry? If there are 7 hijackers, and 1 sky marshal... <img src="/discussions/graphics/spin.gi...Jump to post
I saw on one of the Cleveland news channels, that at Akron-Canton, They have a United Express CRJ, an American Eagle EMB-145, an American 757, and a Northwest Airlink RJ-85 that were either diverted or were at CAK. I live 50 miles from the nearest Intl. Airport (CMH), so I couldn't see for myself. D...Jump to post
Yeah, I heard that AF1 and The White House were both targets. After the planes stopped flying, what could have attacked AF1?? Why they let Bush go back to the White House about 7:00pm EDT yesterday, I really don't know.
Was UA 93's target the White House??
My family and I may be going to Sydney or Melbourne in April. If we go, we will be flying on either United or QANTAS from LAX. How is the service, and what can I expect on these miserably long flights? How long is it? How is the in-flight entertainment? I'm just trying to get a heads-up as to what t...Jump to post
I'll list some of the ones I have as sort of a F.Y.I. thing- Delta- 737-300, 737-800, Md-80x3 (2 old paint scheme, 1 middle scheme), MD-11, L-1011x3 757x2, 777x2, 767-300x2 (1 old scheme, 1 middle) 747-100 limited edition. For me, I am obsessed with 3 airlines. First, my user name explains my favorite- DeltaRules. Delta has given me nice service over the years, with nice flight crews, comfortable seats, and good food. I also like all of their paint schemes, and their fleet. I also have probably a truckful of DL stuff ...Jump to post
I know many people are into Herpa models, but does anybody out there collect Schabak 1:600 scale models? I think they are detailed very well for their small size. Since 1995, I've collected over 130 of these planes, and I was wondering if anybody else does. Give me some info on which ones you have (...Jump to post
I probably have 50+ total, ranging from an ASA EMB-120 safety card, to a NW 747-400 safety card. Every time I get on a plane, I pick up a safety card, and add it to my collection. I'm still trying to get like, a folder for them, so I can have them better organized. Right now, mine are sitting on a b...Jump to post
My opinion- US Airways MD-80s look really good on the outside, I like that old USAir paint scheme on the M80, but on the inside, at least the one I was on, was dark and looked really old. They even had the flat overhead bins. I don't know if they are all that way, so I won't run my mouth and make gu...Jump to post
Truly a shame to see the DC-10s go <img src="/discussions/graphics/crying.gif" ALT="Crying">. How many are left?? And Wasn't the A330 delivery for NW delayed a bit?? Nice trip report Chepos!! I've been to SJU several times over the years, and my family and I stayed in a condo overlooking runway 8- its a heck of an airport!!! San Juan's like a 2nd home. Iberia is taking 747-200s in there now? It used to be DC-10s. Any new airlines? I've wanted to fly ATA, they se...Jump to post
Is Southwest ever planning to break its 25+ year 737 "alliance"? The 717 would seem like a perfect replacement for its 737-200s when they are retired (it's unlikely though.)
Or maybe the A319/A320 combo...?? Frontier was all 737 until they ordered some A319s (I think it was.)
FINALLY!! The almighty Concorde is returning!!!!!! That is some of the best news I've heard in a while. To KonaB777- If you do go on the spectator flight, try to wear cool clothing. At sub sonic speed, the Air Conditioning systems do not work. Believe me, I know first hand. I was on a spectator flig...Jump to post
For a cargo airline- L-1011s or DC-10s (there are TONS in the desert), and the 747-100 or 200. All are reliable, and would be good temporarily until you could afford newer jets. 707, DC-8, DC-9, 727 would be good too. Convair 880/990s maybe? Regional Airlines- Canadair Regional Jet or EMB-145, and a...Jump to post
My thoughts: Any of the Delta paint schemes (some planes look good in 1 paint scheme, some in the others) The new USAirways is cool, I like both of theirs. TWA's is cool, the old one was ok. I think American should keep some planes in the current TWA paint scheme when TWA is gone, for memories. Amer...Jump to post
You're right about the 757. I love that plane's takeoff and the performance of it. (The only plane I like better is the L-1011 though, as others may have noticed.) I was on an A320 CMH-CLT in July, and I liked it. (We then connected in CLT to a 757 to MCO. <img src="/discussions/graphics/wink....Jump to post
I know ATA still has theirs until 2003, that's my only shot to fly on them, YES Portugal picked up some ex- Delta L1011-500s, Flying Hospital has a couple, including Delta's last TriStar, Orbital Sciences, BWIA, Arrow Air, Fine Air, Air Atlanta (for a little while) and the RAF still has them as tank...Jump to post
I'd like to hear about some memories that you may have about Delta's recently retired <img src="/discussions/graphics/frown.gif" ALT="Sad"> L-1011 TriStars. I have many great memories. My warmest memory of flying was in July of 1999. I had flown many times in the past, but one plane had eluded my experience- the Boeing 747. We had tried to get on a NW 747 between MSP-SEA in 1995, but took AmTrak instead. This flight would also be my first to Europe, with my parents, of course. I ...Jump to post
