Re: Planes on fire at Khartoum after coup attempt

The Sudanese FIR is now avoided by all overflights.

All traffic:

- Europe - East Africa / Indian Ocean v.v.
- Saudia Arbia - West Africa v.v.
- West Africa - Arabian Gulf v.v.

is circumnavigating Sudanese airspace mostly over Ethiopia and the Red Sea.

While 20% of the population consumes 80% of the resources; the 80%of the population wants to consume like the 20%. Saying they can’t is terribly colonialist, as if you know better than they do. The only way to square that circle is economic growth and human ingenuity, not bans. A fascinating view! ...

A lot of noise about very little !! Let's consider some facts: - Today AMS is one of the few European airports open for all flight operations at night, so a night curfew would merely bring it in line with most major European airports. Here is the situation at other North West European airports: - LH...

Can you further explain the story behind KL’s longstanding KHI station, what the reason for it was and how big of an operation (staff, crew, ect)? Re: Why does KLM continue servicing certain Asian markets while its other European competitors can't?

Did KL also used to have a major crew hub based in HKG? No Never. Historically, the Brits (that is HKG under UK rule) restricted KLM to 1x weekly DC8 service AMS-HKG, fearing significant leakage for UK carriers if KLM operated HKG-AMS more frequently. For many years the KLM routing was AMS-KWI-KHI-...

Why is KLM Asia the only surviving brand, while the other larger carriers that started in the 80s-90s discontinued the Asia brand later on? The reason KLM can serve TPE, MNL, KUL, CGK and DPS successfully in competition with the ME3 and Turkish has very little to do with AMS as a transfer airport versus LHR, CDG and FRA. It has everything to do with the business model of the airline itself: - High aircraft utilisation - Higher seat dens...

I'm always surprised that the Q400 didn't enjoy more success? It's comfortable 2+2 cabin, fast speed (300nmh) and decent range (1000nm). I know that it is initially expensive to acquire (compared to ATR-72-600) and not as fuel efficient as it could be (due to faster speeds). I'm surprised Bombardie...
