What makes Hahn valuable to amazon is the fact that it is one of the very few airports without night curfew in Germany. Not many airports are up for sale in Germany without that restriction... As the article from Spiegel says, the plane will be operated with Lufthansa crews. It won't be part of the Flugbereitschaft fleet. Seems like the German government arranged a lease deal with Lufthansa.

MH might also benefit from the fact that all 777s are in the old livery and are scheduled to be phased out soon. Minimizes the problems related to the visual impressions people get and remember from the pictures of the crash scenes and those used for illustration purposes in the media.

In Berlin and Amsterdam you can use the observation decks. Check the airport websites for further information.

May I suggest that you post some example pictures for reference. Apart from that it is important to remember that it is not necessary to invest thousands of pounds for camera equipment. Even with a basic DSLR and kit lenses it should be easily possible to have pictures accepted here.

Most DSLRs and lenses will do. For pictures 1,2 and 4 the camera was mounted on a tripod which is the key to success in night photography.
