The MITRE paper is a bit too technical for me, but if that system works would it solve the problem at SFO where the runway usage is cut in half when there are low clouds or fog?

If you are going to stay in New Zealand for a bit be sure to tell us how long and I'll recommend stuff to do there. Your European summer will be mid winter in New Zealand so it might be cold and rainy. I will be enjoying summer in the Sierra!

I'll bet the landing was pretty exciting too. It was very windy by the airport this afternoon. My office is just a bit southwest of the runway and I was probably out walking my dog when they landed so I was very aware of conditions. The approach to RNO on a windy day is always pretty exciting.

The video shows a very short test. Is it possible it was shut down early because of the green color in the exhaust, indicating that some copper was burning in the engine that isn't supposed to be burning?

One thing to think about is that some aircraft wifi systems use satellite based services which work fine on the ground, and others use terrestrial systems which need the aircraft to be high enough to get a signal.

Before they add flights to Bozeman I hope they will increase service to Reno. Reno is booming and most flights are full every day. The Tesla/Panasonic factory site alone has about 10,000 workers daily (including construction) and there is no end in sight to the expansion.
