I think you could have stayed with the original pneumatic system, as I believe many did for standardization and parts conformit.

The definitive answer is there is a large rack of electronic equipment mounted in the cabin center section that requires a dedicated smoke evacuation resource. Thus equipment obviously will be removed when the airplane finished it's certification.

As I recall, SIA briefly had six, maybe eight, 727-212ADV with JT8D-17 power. They all had AT, AB, ASB, auto pak doors. They came from Boeing with dual Carousel INS, RH Nosewheel steering, Collins FD110 and a host of other OEM options. One or two of these ac are still around and in corporate service...

The L188 was grounded while Lockheed developed a fix for the whirl mode phenomenon. The Electra ll followed. The 727 was never grounded, and I'm not aware of any consideration as such.

The original MD11 wipers were stowed in the traditional lower position. After about a year or so they parked in the vertical. Don't recall any noise issues either way they parked. I think this mod was a part of an early PIP service bulletin.

Actually the 720B had 17,00 pound thrust JT3D-??, while the 320B/C had 18,000 lbs. Those numers look so small by todays engine thrust numbers.

The indian head was kind of dated, but still much better than the "swizzle stick" design that followed . The 'Bud Lite" design was the best IMO, but short lived due to the Delta merger. It would hve been impressive to see eitherr the 720 or 707 with that paint scheme.

B727-200 empty weight was a little over 100k whereas a 738 is around 90k Pretty big difference Perhaps, but recall that over the life of the 727, went from somewhere around 172,000 up to 208,000 TOGW which is pretty significant. The VC10 and B720B have little in common other than the fact they are both jet airliners. Maybe the 707-320B and Suoer VC10 would be a closer comparison? Love the VC10:)

Not sure about the 737-200 as this was not installed in the aircraft I flew,\. However, I would imagine if the aircraft had INS or Omega there would be a NAV mode selection that could selected on the AP. That the way it worked in the 707. The 727 with the Sperry SP150 autopilot worked the same way.
