The industry had a difficult period after 9-11. BA, AF, LH surived because they have big home markets. AZ, SN, SR, IB and others went down or had to be saved by their governments. KLM was quick to respond, has a solid financial basis and is expanding its business ATM and buying new fleet. What would...Jump to post

So if SQ cancels the 340 Boeing will pay the difference in purchasing & operating costs and resell the 340's...
This sounds desperate ....
I flew Aeroflot recently Amsterdam - Moscow on a B734. Their Image still s.cks, but their product is very competitive I must say. Clean aircraft, lots of food, entertainment and legroom in C (4 abreast). I liked the Georgian wine. Crew was not to friendly, but that's cultural I've heard ... Are peop...Jump to post
Is it the ~800 Nm extra range that makes the the A330 the preferred aircraft over the 767-400ER with most airlines ? IMO many markets could be critical in that respect. . California - Western Europe . Western Europe - Japan/ Far East . Western Europe - South Africa . DTW/ORD - Asia . SIN/BKK/KUL - E...Jump to post
I think the B767-200/300/400 (ER) just dont offer the long range possibility´s a A330-200 does. However the A330 is optimized for long range and less efficient for short/medium range. The 767-300/400 is optimized for medium range but too big & needs a radical upgrade (new wings etc) to stay competit...Jump to post
I think NWA, KLM and Virgin installed "airvision" systems in the early 90´s. KL & NWA removed it quickly because very low reliability & high cost. Virgin flew them for I think 10 years, very small screen , a few channels, B&W ..

<font color=...Jump to post

I think A330 is very different from 777 as well as 767 in terms of capasity & range. However in a few years the 767 design is 30 years old without radical improvements. Buying more is perhaps not feasible. I think with the continued growth in the next ten years by-passing hubs for mid size destinati...Jump to post
Looking at e.g. UAL and BA long haul fleets (made up of "new" B747´s and B777´s and lots of old 767´s) it would not surprice me if they would require a 250-300 seater to keep open/ open up routes were the 777 is just to big. With it´s capasity and 10.000 km range the A330/200 could (apart from repla...Jump to post
GoldenMAS if you have the extra 4 houres available I would take the high speed train. It is a direct connection, and leaves from the airport many times a day. http://www.thalys.com/ You´ll sit better, see more etc ... have fun cheers keesjeJump to post

Are they replacing the 800 (!!) KC135 (707´s) the US governement bought for the last 40 years ? Then more orders should be coming... Boeing is involved in many big defens projects for ages. Well, it should buy them some time and give money to develop a replacement for the 767 now airlines have concl...Jump to post
Italian government will undoubtly go for a "one time" "final" "restructuring" "modernisation" "efficiency improvement" "more environmental friendly aircraft" "fleet standardisation" Or better said a traditional governement bail-out as shown often by state owned Alitalia, Air France, Olympic and Iber...Jump to post
I think this shows the medium range 200-250 seat gab ..

It´s like the old Swissair : High Quality sells itself. They put that strategy on Sabena to. Great new aircraft lots of food & crew. I think it is not the culture it takes to survive in this business. A strong network & flexibility to cut back fast in bad times would be more convincing IMO.Jump to post
A 787 project that offers type/cockpit/cabin/systems commonality with 777 would really help both programs That would be my idea, use existing technology ; - ~ B767 body diameter (or a little wider), but lighter/better (8 shape ?), twin aisle, 7/8 abreast (high dens./ long haul) in Y. - Stand...Jump to post

I think there is a market niche for 200-250 seat aircraft in the 3000 -5000 Nm range. Longer N/S Americas stretches, North Atlantic flights, intra Asia flights etc. are growing as is demand for short range high capasity aircraft. Airbus is not planning such an aircraft ; the A310 is going out of pro...Jump to post
Easy connections is I think the most important. Lately I´ve been spending a lot of time waiting at the gate for delayed flights, unfortunately.
What´s your favorite "activity" waiting at the gate for 45 minutes ? Does anyone have experience with "gate catering" ?
Great I like corsair. Was the 747-200 a former KL 742 ?
I think Herb is a true inspirator
