Re: Gripen-M better than Rafale-M, F-18E????

Completely conceptual, basically bespoke aircraft.

Standard Euroworld parts/sustainment...see also EF2000, Tornado.

Potentially good per hour cost, but complete guess on deck performance.

Re: US no longer a member of Military Open Skies treaty

Hawaii was an independent Kingdom which the US annexed along with a lot of other Pacific Island territories. Your hands aren’t clean, there’s no difference to China has done recently and what the US did previously. But don't the Chinese base many of their objections to treaties they don't like hist...

Re: FedEx and Sikorsky: Beginning Trial on Single Pilot Ops for Cargo

Do you think your airline's chief financial officer says "pilot cost is only a small fraction of cost per seat per mile, we're cool"? I think it's more along the lines of "here's a cost component we have some influence over, let's see what we can do to reduce it". I think that's...

Re: EU Preparing Airline Eco-Label system

Virtue signaling of the worst kind. Bosses insisted on a “green” offset program for the company bizjet. Nicely affixed label by the entry door showing the greed creds. Boss smiles approvingly to me upon seeing it, boards solo for a trip NYC-LON. Don’t, for an instant, think these people actually be...

Re: EU Preparing Airline Eco-Label system

So, how is this putative train powered? Certainly no ecological damaging Russian sourced natural gas, or unreliable solar or wind, am I correct?

Are the costs of laying rails across the North Atlantic or Med Sea implied?

Re: US no longer a member of Military Open Skies treaty

Russia isn’t going to be anything more in 20 years than they are today. China couldn’t be any worse than the US has been since the 80’s, I doubt they will follow your lead either, they’re not stupid, they’ve seen how your lot have failed more often than not. I don't know about that. The US hasn't t...

Re: USAF looking for an E-4B replacement

Well, the USAF has now bought a brand new simulator for the E-4 fleet. https://www.airforcemag.com/usaf-buys-first-training-simulator-for-doomsday-fleet/ If that’s the case, I give the E-4 program 2 weeks until program termination. Watch for the new BX at Offut! Its funny, because its true. At leas...

Re: USAF looking for an E-4B replacement

With space-based communications at this point I don’t really understand how much value a widebody on orbit at 40K feet really offers. Certainly no need for an A380/747 size platform. If there is a mission where space-based everything is going be stressed its nuclear command and control. At the end ...

Re: FedEx and Sikorsky: Beginning Trial on Single Pilot Ops for Cargo

\ I think you will find the Wright Flyer and the Boeing 707 had what we'd view as a significant crash rate. Current military operations aren't a template, but they are showing that it is coming, just like military operations showed the Internet was coming, commercial space launches were coming, etc...

Re: Hypothetical Scottish Military

GDB--while some of your points are good, the thing you seem to be ignoring is those soldiers are all Scottish . I'm sure most would prefer serving their own independent country. My OP gives a reasonable military plan that would give them most of the benefits of serving in the British Army. They wou...

Re: FedEx and Sikorsky: Beginning Trial on Single Pilot Ops for Cargo

Honestly, of all the regulators, I would think that EASA would be the one most worried about any aircraft past a certain size being capable of non-authorized ground control and certainly in favor of keeping cockpits a "no-lone zone."

Re: FedEx and Sikorsky: Beginning Trial on Single Pilot Ops for Cargo

We will get there one step at a time, and USAF drone operations show that it is possible. The USAF drone operations which had a RQ-170 land in Iran, or the USAF drone operations with a significant crash rate, or the USAF drone operations dependent upon very labor/resource intensive data networks? N...

Re: Hypothetical Scottish Military

It would be the same as the Baltics or the former states of Yugoslavia, neither was blocked by Spain. I could be wrong, but I believe that Spain still does not recognize Kosovo. No established Western European state wants the regional independence domino to fall, and that includes in addition to th...
