The C on a 3 class is far superior to a F on 2 class, especailly if it is a 777 or 747. The 3 class goes on to international service and it is a far better seat then a domestic 2 class.

Yes UA is going to start serving "some" meals again. There was something in Hemisphere magazine. However the flight has to be closer to two hours, not one, and it will be a roll or bagel. Even in F, no more omletes except for flights of several hours.

So, it i snot exactly "back".

I have not seen SQ or CX, but BA's new ones are great. UA does not have sleepers in C, but F. UA will be years behind the other majors making a change like this.

Several years ago the employees "bought out" the airline and they became employee/owners. From some comments I have heard from the "employee/owners" they do not feel any more a part of the airline or have more say or are listened to then they were before.

I don't know where you are located, but in London there are some consolidators (also in USA) who can get some good fares. A good agency in London to deal with is (I think the name is correct) TravelFinders (or TrailFinders). They are located in Kennsington. They get good C fares, but not F.

LH does not let you off on FRA-JNB-CPT. SQ does not let you off on Mauritius on the SIN-JNB, or SIN-JNB-CPT.

Most airlines stopping enroute with a ground time of only about 1 hour do not let you off.

UAL 777 Contrail I am not sure, but I did hear years ago that the reason NW had red tails was becuase they flew over very snowy areas and if they crashed the red tail would be easier for rescurers to spot. I don't know if it is true but when you mentioned it, it triggered that remembrance in me.

Air New Zealand could have been a good possibility if we had gotten to it sooner. UA assured me that as 1 K I would get the seats. Too late for antyhing now, I lost the vacation slot.

We tried within about 2 days on either side (so five total out of the week from two airports, so equal to anout 10 departures). No luck. UA just will not release F seats.

Johnboy I just checked the ad for Ethiopian to JNB. $910.00 from Washington or Newark, in Q class basis, but could not see dates. You might get a cheap ATA across country and hook up. That is also an idea, use something like ATA to the east coast and then look for fares from there to JNB.
