How is this even physically possible? By the time someone reached a couple thousand feet after takeoff from DCA, they would already be approaching IAD (or vice versa). You would literally have to fly a few loops over NoVa just to be able to maintain a safe altitude, speed, fuel etc to land. Not an ...

Modern CFD allows designs with less sweep to perform well at Mach numbers below .85-ish. The new G7500 has 35 degrees of sweep at cruises at M.88. The Citation X has 37.5 degrees, again very high Mach design.

It’s all relative. Fly on an A-10 deployment for two weeks almost all flying including traffic patterns below 500’ and flying at home at normal altitudes feels like outer space. Fly for 12 hours at F450 over water and 5,000’ feet feels like skimming the Earth.

If the wing box is outside the pressure hull, it’d be just like any passenger liner. Or, like ACT tanks in baggage. I don’t know how it was designed, I do know the wing box reduces the ceiling height from friends who flew it, esp loads. Maybe ASD knows how it was certified, maybe it’s like the A400.

A good, but not very accurate, idea of altitude. Mostly, by how much detail can be observed. From anywhere below 18,000, very good detail, less so in the thirties, by the middle forties, not worth looking out, not much to see.

Yes, thrust to idle, speed brakes as needed, once on the approach, use configuration changes to slow to Vref. We don’t use the boards at 180 knots to slow to 160 knots for the next flap setting.
