NO, not in Australia at least. As for being a passenger I have had a mild fear of flying in the past, but I flew two days after the attacks and had no fear about being in the air at all.
Jump to postYes, I had been wondering the same thing myself, and the ideas mentioned make a lot of sense ... pax numbers being down in general, hijackers reserving a number of seats themselves, and choosing planes with less pax so they could have more control. The process of self-checking in these days and sele...
Jump to postTHANK YOU to Ansett Airlines. Your the first airline I ever flew with out of DPO many years ago, and I have loved aviation ever since. THANK YOU ALSO to KENDELL AIRLINES, who I flew with regularly and will really miss in the skies and at the airports. It is no doubt that this is a sad day in Austral...
Jump to postI was here last night on Airliners.net at my parent's house. I'm flying home tomorrow. It did not seem real or to make sense at first so I waited, and then this site went 'crazy', and I'm one of millions still coming to terms with it. RIP to all the victims of this tragedy. <img src="/discussi...
Jump to postI can't believe this is happening.. It is such a huge disaster.. Sadness is being felt all over the world just now..my God..
Oh my God! Just read it here, and now heard the news bulletin..
I love it!! <img src="/discussions/graphics/love.gif" ALT="Love"> I often see this wonderful sight in the Australian skies (not DC-10 though). When flying not directly overhead I can easily identify Qantas without binoculars, others are not as easy though. Usually = trails, but occasionally a ...

Jump to postI have had many aviation dreams both good and bad, but I don't remember most of them soon after. An interesting one that has recurred from time to time over the years is of being in the left hand seat of a light aircraft flying (I've never been in a light aircraft) - and it is situated at the first ...
Jump to postIt looks like the seating layout for the Saab 340. I do get claustrophobic in these aircraft, and I don't like to admit it! I am with 'Climbout' on this one, I endeavour to do exactly as mentioned above, if I have to fly in this aircraft. Strangely enough I don't get claustrophobic in the Dash 8 whi...
Jump to postYes, I would think it would definately depend on these factors. If I am able to find out, I'll post it here. I read in Airliner World that the 'pictures' are actually transfers, well some of them I guess. I really like the pink JAL 50th anniversary livery on the 747 with the Disney characters, now t...
Jump to postIt does affect me when there is bad news in aviation. With air crashes there are often many people (say 100+) who die in the one accident, so it is very sad. The Concorde crash affected me the most, and there is so much media attention... there are still replays from time to time of the Concorde in ...
Jump to postThanks for that. I fly in the Saab 340 quite often (when it's full it seems like there's more people than aircraft!). I am glad that this incident was not fatal, even though the report came from airdisaster.com!
Jump to postHeard it on the radio this morning!! Hurrah!! ... need I say more ...
Airliners,
Thanks for that! I look forward to reading more - you can never know too much...
I hope we will get it here in Australia at some stage?

Cx flyboy, That's amazing! <img src="/discussions/graphics/spin.gif" ALT="Smile/happy/getting dizzy"> Looks like you've found your niche in life and are prepared to put the hard work in to achieve what you want. I thought only pilots who are at least 35+ would be able to be part of the crew of...
Jump to postI have never actually done this but I have thought about it many times. <img src="/discussions/graphics/smile.gif" ALT="Smile"> Now with cheaper airfares in Australia it has become more affordable to fly interstate and back in the one day or next day 'just for the sake of it' (and to check out...
Jump to postI know I would be saddened if the Ansett brand disappeared, but I'm not sure about the general public outcry, maybe more so for QANTAS as mentioned. I know that nothing lasts forever, but for me Ansett has been around my whole life, it's the first airline I ever flew with, and the most recent. I am ...
Jump to postIn answer to the last question of the original post, I am reading Brian Trubshaw's 'Concorde: the Inside Story' at the moment. It contains everything you want to know about Concorde, it's history, the construction, ...well everything for the enthusiast! It also has lots of illustrations and photos o...

Jump to postYes definitely! Australia's airlines are among the best and safest in the world: Ansett/Kendell, Qantas and Virgin Blue. See pics below.. <img src="/discussions/graphics/spin.gif" ALT="Smile/happy/getting dizzy"> <br><center><a href="/open.file?id= 185577" target="_blank"><font color="#EEEEEE"...
Jump to postI am getting flight simulator soon, and I think it would definately encourage more people to learn to fly. For me, as well as the enjoyment it would also be a step towards the real thing, and I would understand a lot more than if I hadn't used FS.
Jump to postIf it's what you really want to do then you will have the determination to succeed and follow your dream. The money will get better in the long term but that shouldn't be a main motivation. I think pilots will still be needed at least in our lifetime, even though it's obvious that almost everything ...
Jump to postNo you know you are not the only one! I really do enjoy being up there, and believe it's only as interesting a you make it. Reading aviation books, planespotting etc. is partly a compensation for not being able to be up there more often!
I am flying next week and looking forward to it.
As you can probably tell you are not alone here! I love going to the airport <img src="/discussions/graphics/smokin.gif" ALT="Smokin cool"> when I can, to watch the planes and absorb the atmosphere and goings on. In fact, if I could I would <I>move</I> the the airport!! <img src="/discus...
Jump to postYes a special 'return to service' paint scheme is a good idea. Looking forward to the day soon when Concorde will be fully operational again (long live). Will there be any new routes introduced or special flights I wonder ... to Australia (wishful thinking..)
Jump to postI use the departing flights as an alarm clock, the regular flights arriving, departing and going over to tell the time, and can identify the type of aircraft flying in by the sound .. hmm.. Yes, <I>not</I> living under a flight path or near an airport should be avoided at all costs!! <img src=...
Jump to postThe reason I thought this was because Virgin Blue had a new B737 (VH-GBE) delivered in April, which was painted in the UK before flying to Australia. Also another delivery of a CRJ200 from Montreal to Australia was flown via Iceland and Munich. I imagine among the many reasons for this, is that ther...
Jump to postI thought that it was really only the engines that made it fly and the rest was only for appearance (to look like a bird!). I also thought using the thrust reversers were for the passengers enjoyment of the flying experience, not to do with actually flying the plane! Gosh did I really write that.. &...
Jump to postThey are upgrading their 767 fleet so it may have been sold to another airline but was yet to be repainted, or was it a new 767 delivery for Ansett on it's way to Australia..that's my guess.
Jump to postKj76, I have been flying as a passenger on aircraft all my life but a couple of years ago I started to develop a fear of flying, which progressively got worse, - and I like flying! So I read some books on fear of flying etc. which helped me understand more about the way things work and put my fears ...
Jump to postA very good topic! The few quotes I know have already been posted but I have found some other really good (profound) ones, and some funny, humourous ones here too. Thanks for the website link as well
Ansett Australia/Kendell are very good in my opinion. I've also heard Singapore and Cathay Pacific have high standard of service, though I've never flown with them. I imagine BA would be pretty good too.
Jump to postI have never had any problems with planespotting in Australia, while using a camera and/or binoculars. As for feeling uncomfortable, yes I have had strange looks from people maybe wondering why I am doing it (..must be trying to finish the film..), which I have to try and be a bit discreet, but then...
Jump to postIt was on the prime time news here in Australia too. I've never known a whole incident like it. In my opinion it was definitely not normal, the amount of fuel gushing out. What became of the Captain/crew afterwards regarding the incident? The passengers 'saved the day' in this case. <img src="...
