RE: OK So I Am A Chicken.........

I would say that I agree with the majority of people posting here. You should wait until your 18, if not longer before pursuing flying. You are obviously way to pre-occupied with the accident records of the aircraft. You also say that people ignore that it happens, of course we don't. I read every o...

RE: Ailerons And Rudder At Cross Landings?

In a little General Aviation plane(Cessna, piper, light twins) you go with Ailerons into the wind, and opposite rudder to keep the plane lined up on centerline. In fact this holds true with all aircraft, although some on twin engines or more, may use differential thrust to help with the crosswind as...

It's actually the "Gimli Glider", named for the airfield that it landed on. Which was an old airfield, it actually still had one active runway, the other used for drag racing and such. The 767 was on it's way from Toronto to Edmonton, and ran out of fuel due to the conversion error. Gimli is near th...

I doubt that landing you described was an auto-land. Sounds like the pilot greased one on quite nicely. Auto-land has a tendency to just 'fly the plane' on to the ground, so they will usually be 'solid' as opposed to a greaser.

Of course they are crucial to safety Mirrodie. Usually the landing lights come on below 10,000 ft. in most aircraft, and that makes them quite visible from a great distance.
