Thank you for this thread first of all its a question i always wondered about. In addition to the vertical surfaces on the tail could someone tell me about the little horizantal surfaces under the tail on the fuselage? In the first pic they are clearly visable right above the registration.

Haveric, I agree a new runway would ease congestion a bit, but other airports are just as hemmed in as PHL and have more int'l service. I'm going to hate myself for saying this, but look at EWR. I don't have the acutal numbers, however calling BA, LH, AF and US for seats on flts if yours is canceled or passengers will misconnect, ia a watse of time. They tell you they are overbooked almost all the time. I hope someone has those load factors they would be interesting to see.

Why is it that what ever is done to a wing to make it more efficient also have to added benefit of making the plane look very cool. Winglets, looped winglets, blended winglet, raked wings. All look like they came from LucasArts, yet have actual value.

I was told that an airport doesn't actually have to have an international flight to be an International airport, that it actually had some technical ATC meaning. Ex. MHT Harrisburg PA has no Intl flights yet is called an international airport. Can anyone tell me why?
