I always thought that LHR would be a prime location for preclearance, what with the vast number of US bound flights departing there every day. Maybe it a volume/logistics problem that prevents it...???

Wow. That's incredible. I recall seeing an episode of Airline where a Southwest aircraft got struck while at the gate.
