Many laptops now come with wifi built in, compliments of Intel. Check before buying a card. I use a $20 PCMIA card but my laptop is a Windows 98 dinasaur.
To set up WEP, you need to access your router through its software. It will guide you, its not hard.

You can pick up plenty of free broadband with a wireless card. I just spent a week in Waikiki and had several free broadband options from my hotel room. Despite the hype, solar power is very inefficient. About 14% right now when pointed at direct sunlight. No matter what, it always needs a backup and/or storage system. Heavy, heavy batteries and/or generator. The electronics to convert the power weigh relatively little. Windpower on the other hand.....

If the reporter is claiming she was ambushed, they will soon be finding the big holes in her story. If they wanted her dead, she would be dead. Without a trace. Easily done, who would know who did what on the most dangerous road in Iraq, at night, during curfew? Just another IED and who would know? ...
