Well done to them.
Agree with AC7E7, better to give a 13 month wage or a lump sum payment than increase the base across the board to keep profitable when times are lean.
At the same time, when you can afford to, reward the team who generated the profits at every level.

Not sure what happened, they apparently had an emergency after takeoff and returned to land. Some form of manfunction with the gear happened when they landed closing down the runway.
Runway is now clear so I dont think it could have been a wheels up landing either.

At lighter weight you actually burn less fuel, need to produce less lift, less drag. At MTOW the 744 is limited to about FL290 straight after takeoff, empty payload you can get a lot higher straight away which also saves fuel.
