Very nice shot by the way! But yeah this happens..
The lens your using is it the EF600mm? and with 2x that's over 1200mm, then you will certainly see this type of heat haze 'magnified' as you are shooting through more air.

From what i can see is that its rather grainy and some jaggies! Might be hard to fix, as we can't see how the origional is. To me looks like the origional shot was a bit blurry? If thats the case then im not sure if it will get on... But good luck with the re-edit!

Try a couple of house keeping procedures like defragment disk clean up. Maybe a bunch of spyware got installed? Also try minimizing the background programs!

I would also like some clarification on this.

I have had some shots that show same a bit more engine than Mr. Hunts image and also a piece of the wing and it got rejected for motive.
