I have one photo of this plane with the name under the cockpit windows. The picture I have was taken on March 23rd, 1997 as the A/C was landing in Toronto. It was taken in late afternoon, early evening and the runway it was landing on was 06Left.
I have seen three fatal crashes, all of them at the Canadian International Airshow that is held in Toronto. The first was in 1977 when a Fairey Firefly crashed after pulling up, I believe the pilot, Alan Ness, a founding member of the Canadian Warplane Heritage, stalled the aircraft. He was killed. ...Jump to post
Nope. Reason for drop in both is demographics( aging population) and good economic times.
Most countries are able to offer great things to their citizens. Part of the problem we in the west have is we place our values on lifestyles in remote parts of the world. I enjoy being Canadian and all of the great things that this country has to offer. That is not to say that Canada is faultless t...Jump to post
You guys have it all wrong. We should force these people to do nothing. We then feed them high fat diets with lots of sugar and starches. When they get out of prison they are all too fat and out of shape to commit crime. Letting these guys work out or making them work hard only lets thems get/stay i...Jump to post
Picking up on the current Anchorage thread, with the inevitable opening of more and more polar routes and the introduction of longer range cargo aircraft does anyone agree with me that Anchorage will become another Gander? It may still be a few years away but there is no doubt in my mind it will hap...Jump to post
Go ahead and smoke in your own home where you can set the rules. That way if I don't like the second hand smoke and what it does to me I can leave. If you are in public and as far as I am concerned that includes outdoor facilities, then you do not have the right to smoke. If you want to kill yoursel...Jump to post
His attitude is exactly what is wrong with the world today. As long as he agrees with the rules then they are fine but if he disagrees then he advocates breaking them claiming they infringe on HIS right to self determination. He is a prototypical spoiled brat who happens to have an inkling of talent...Jump to post
Oh please , ask any level thinking member of the Canadian Auto Workers Union and they will tell you it is a covert government operation designed to bust the CAW at all Boeing plants in Canada. Nothing more, nothing less.
PS. Just joking all you union guys and gals.
If you guys remember, the " invasion " on the transport ship was to consist of two Sea Kings but one went mechanical before the flight. Thanks for reminding me about the helicoptor fiasco. If memory serves me correctly the Canadian Government spent 500 million dollars in penalties and such. Yes Paul...Jump to post
He is a liar ( which one isn't though), a man who has raised political patronage to an all time high, a man who is so autocratic that no-one within his party speaks out against him or his policies ( ask John Nunziata ), a man who uses the Office of the Prime Minister to get more than his riding's sh...Jump to post
A variety of lenses or a zoom lens is required .( 35mm for close in large AC up to 300mm for aircraft on taxiways ) I have never been bothered by security in parking garage of T-1. Photography from there is as old as the terminal and is a well accepted practice. ( unless you get a Normy Newguy secur...Jump to post
My guess is a hit. If it were just a street thing then the money would be gone. Poor guy probably knew something he should not have. Not a common way to whack a guy but I guess in cash strapped Russia one uses whatever to accomplish the task at hand.
If you send money or arms to the murdering bastards in the IRA then go to Church and sit there with a holier than though attitude.
When I fly I like to "feel" the aircraft and when the TriStar starts up the whole plane seems to come to life. The vibrations throughout the airframe almost make it feel as though the airplane were alive and was saying " hold on, this is going to be special "
I dont know which I am more jealous of, the fact you have a multitude of airports to visit or the fact it is sunny, clear and in the eighties.
Today is another day in the 20's with 100 % cloud cover. Ah, there is nothing like a February day in southern Ontario.
I know this isn't civil aviation minded but Johnnie Johnson, the leading ace of the RAF during WW2 ( 38 kills ) passed away this past Tuesday. Johnson retired from the RAF with the rank of Air Vice-Marshal. He won three DSO's and two DFC's during the war and flew with Douglas Bader, a another RAF le...Jump to post
Appears I was wrong on the sale of this aircraft. Just ran a search of the registration and the plane comes back registered to
PO Box 507
You can write to this company and perhaps they will forward a photo or two.
If you can find a copy of Airways from July 1998 there is an article with photos. Reg. of DC-3 on floats is N130Q. At the time it was owned by a guy named Max Folsom and was based out of Greenville Maine. It was at the time, the only DC-3 on floats. Article goes on to state that the USAAF ordered 15...Jump to post
I think alot of you are missing the point here. It is not about this one case and the punishment this guy will get back in Russia. I am sure 5 years in a Russian prison is the equivilant to 20 years in a Canadian Club Fed. My point is about the immunity itself. This could very easily happen with som...Jump to post
Ditto on AC320's post. Bombardier all the way.
My apologies to Iran for fingering their embassy. Brissie is absolutely correct in stating it was the Libyans. Diplomatic immunity is so abused that it has become a laughing stock. The crimes that these to Russians are accused of had nothing to do with official government functions and as such immun...Jump to post
Dude, its January.... what did you expect weather wise. There is absolutley no doubt that once in the terminals at YYZ your photo ops. are , shall we say, extremely limited.
