The fact that AZ (ITA) can't make MXP-JFK work, connecting Italy's wealthiest region and largest hub of business and export/commerce is a glaring example of the structural issues that are ITA's hurdles. Would not surprise that once AZ is fully owned by LH, a Eurowings A330 will pop up in this marke...
Jump to postAt this point, TK provides better priced and timed itineraries than DL does over AMS or CDG. So no, it’s strategic not a joke. IMO How does TK provide better itineraries to India? TK can only fly to BOM and DEL. AF/KL fly to BOM, DEL, BLR and MAA (AF even adding a second flight to BOM on some days ...
Jump to postRead on X - air India granted Bombay Manchester 7x frequency for summer 2024 operating on 787. Flew the route back in 2001 on SQ metal . Interesting add for air India ( assuming they actually fly the route ) Wonder what the timings are. Is it just me or does AI not have a proper bank to connect the...
Jump to postThe financing terms must have been really attractive for AI to get 77Ws and 77Ls instead of leasing 789s and A350s. Speaking of, do we know if AI have started to train existing Airbus pilots for the upcoming A359s or if they have started hiring A350 pilots ? They probably needed the capacity of the...
Jump to postI'm still surprised UA didn't give AMD-EWR or DEL-IAD a chance Why AMD? Large local market and considerably shorter than BOM. AI had done one-stop EWR-XXX-AMD for ages, and iIRC did the route nonstop around '10/'11. EWR-AMD is the east coast counterpart of SFO-BLR. Ha I almost fell off my chair - n...
Jump to postORD is no longer a 777 domicile so any high-volume longhaul flying is with 787. UA doesn't have any ULH flying out of ORD so the performance of a 789 isn't necessary, and the -10 can cover pretty much the entire intercontinental network. In that regard it's almost tailor-made for ORD. There are som...

Jump to postThe disclaimer to the data I am about to post is that it factors in O&D only. It does not factor in costs or connecting traffic. That said, below is the amount of revenue each UA hub generates from O&D from the last two quarters. Numbers are averaged per day, per direction, and in millions:...

Jump to postThere are few aspects here that I want to highlight. ME3 have a big market, given that 80% of world's population lives within 8 hrs of ME3 hubs. AI and to some extent TK, are the only ones which can command same amount of market with a say 10 hr window from DEL, BOM. However, keep in mind that Chin...
Jump to postAre you employed by a ME3 airline? Two things that come to mind - (1) Who do you think it flying AI’s nonstops and UA’s before the Russian airspace shutdown? So many new nonstops and growing rapidly. Of course this affects the old players and (2) You talk about the connecting airport experience - y...
Jump to postQuestion no one has answered is, if ME3 has zero to worry about Air India, why was the strongest of them all, EK, desperately trying to partner with Air India ? Actually, I will answer that. This is not the first time that EK has offered to partner with Air India. They have made this exact same off...
Jump to postI wonder how AF's increase in BOM will affect the proposed UK/AI BOM-CDG flight? I felt like that was next up after BOM-FRA. Btw AF is running their low J 77W to BOM in Dec (like 12 or 14 J seats). Huge capacity but so strange to pick that config (I think it normally does Indian Ocean flights).
Jump to postI am not wrong, I am merely speaking reality. The ME3 at this time and in the next 5-10 years have zero worry about Air India. It has been thread and a half. And the origin of my response was this statement above. Question no one has answered is, if ME3 has zero to worry about Air India, why was th...
Jump to post^^ You clearly did not read the article. So I wil post it again.... ".... These direct flights to the US are bound to happen . Jump to postWhere would MAD sit? Air India launched DEL-MAD in 2016 but they haven't restarted it yet after COVID. Last 12m DEL-MAD was 44K versus 73K for BCN ! Interesting. Tourism to Barcelona is huge. I have wondered in the past whether Iberia should start delhi-madrid, they could send people on to Barcelon...

Jump to postNone. Never seen any interlining available with UA. Wonder if AI should even stay in Star Alliance. Star Alliance is just not UA, Air India appears to have some sort of relationship with LH. But in general UA is notorious for not cooperating with many Star Carriers such as Air India, Egypt Air, Tur...
Jump to postThat isn’t true. The data comes from ARC, IATA, and FM Travel, it is factual and non-negotiable. I just looked at fares 12/1 with return 12/9 (I know it is just one date) - here is the thing be it higher or not, the one thing is for sure - AI's nonstops, even with crap interiors, are no longer anyw...
Jump to postHopefully BOM-SYD 3 weekly nonstop gets launched by W24 season ! Mentioned below (in 000s) is MEL vs SYD vs BNE vs AKL demand for main Indian metros over the past 12 months: BOM - 109 vs 114 vs 32 vs 66 DEL - 436 vs 271 vs 95 vs 206 BLR - 72 vs 78 vs 16 vs 17 HYD - 84 vs 77 vs 12 vs 18 MAA - 54 vs ...
Jump to postI have access to the financial data on the O&D between AI and QR/EK/EY and this is 100% correct. The fares AI gets are bottom barrel compared to the ME3. No one at any of the Gulf Carriers is shaking in their boots about AI. The only market where AI gets legitimately good fares is SFO, but even...
Jump to postI have it broken down by revenue instead of PDEW since thats what really matters. Average Daily Revenue to India in thousands: DFW: $337 LAX: $274 SEA: $227 IAH: $210 BOS: $192 ATL: $187 Since DTW and DEN were mentioned earlier: DTW: $121 DEN: $45 It doesn't really matter what the breakdown of tour...
Jump to postGo AI with all these new adds. I really like how they are going Daily from DEL but then add 3X or 4X out of BOM. Such a great way to allow for nonstop at least one way. Also the flight times really differ from DEL-MEL so now even DEL pax that want to arrive into MEL in the evening to then rest befor...
Jump to postAssuming VS has seen the reduction in business travel between AUS and LHR (which makes sense to me), I think this is the right move. Skyteam is much better off pooling resources of their JV into AUS-AMS (which they fly) or AUS-CDG. Austin residents and business travelers would probably appreciate ac...
Jump to postDon’t think so, many passengers still have to connect if they are flying AI, eg HYD to SFO/COK to LAX/ DEL- ATL. If you have to connect why not cornet through the ME where the experience is better and you don’t have to recheck your luggage like in DEL. By the time AI has flights to LAX to HYD or ro...

Jump to postMNL flight should be landing in a few hours. Pushed 3 minutes early, expected to arrive 1 hr. 7 minutes early. Seat map shows 20 empty Y seats on the 77W. Jump to postAir India is prioritizing US routes for its aircraft with upgraded hard product. Perhaps because fares are higher than UK routes? If soft product upgrades continue as the relationship with Singapore Airlines deepens, the ME 3 will face a serious challenge to a big revenue source . Don’t think so, m...
Jump to postI agree with what Jet Blue is saying. Because the NL govt is artificially reducing capacity you cannot compare this to LHR )as someone already said). The NL govt has to ensure that in this reduction slots are retained for other countries. This would mean KL will get hid harder than if it was proport...
Jump to postVT-AEQ, the second ex-Etihad 77W, has entered service on the BOM-LHR route. It seems like BOM is getting the newer planes before DEL. So here are the routes with the leased planes. Jump to postSo now 21X out of NYC and 17X out of SFO to India. So out of SFO, AI is bigger than ANA, JAL, CX, KE. Pretty impressive. I am surprised Ai isn’t starting ORD-BOM 3X and LAX-DEL 3X. I wonder where the new A350 will fly to? As far as the livery, I think it looks fine. Clearly the TATAs think it is mor...
Jump to postQuestion for UA people...on the Turkish Thread there have been talks of an American carrier starting IST, UA and DL seem to be the lead candidates. What are your thoughts on the likelihood of UA starting IST? If UA were to announce IST, it would be a resumption of service. UA flew EWR-IST in the ea...
Jump to postSo with the release of AI Express branding and the loss of the unique tails featuring different Indian images, I think it is safe to say TATAs were determined to have an "international" branding and avoid ethnic images. I see what they wanted to do this. AI has to almost reprogram global t...
Jump to postI was checking expertflyer seat maps and it looks like in December LHR-BOM 2nd flight (evening from LHR) is going to the EY 77W config and Delhi is back to 787 only. I thought the EY bird were going to be Delhi based. Looks like BOM and BLR will not see too many legacy AI configured wide bodies. AI...
Jump to postI think AI has concentrated more on DOM-INTL rather than INTL-INTL transfers because of yields. People have very few options to get to Tier 2/3 cities in India. If you can fill the plane with these higher paying pax why go after others where competition is fierce. Take the OZ flights, basically are ...
Jump to postTo Bawalibooch - I don’t doubt that Jet had some worn out planes but for 5 years I flew 4 flights a year on Jet 77W’s in J and never had a bad flight. The planes were in fine condition and clean (not brand new but been on many DL 767s/A330 that are much worse). Flights on time and ground crew/flight...

Jump to postDoes one need a transit visa for India? Assuming staying airside (so not clearing immigration). Aside from maybe PAK and Afghanistan, I don’t think so. Jump to postI think SAS’s biggest issue in becoming a viable transfer hub is that it has low frequencies to EU that connect to their transatlantic flights. I connected in OSL from NYC going to CDG and had a 3 hour layover. Never again. Was too long. But I think they can definitely concentrate on key transfer ma...
Jump to postI just flew LH A346 in J with a 2/2/2 config - it was terrible. That doesn't mean LH can't be a connector airline. I really do not understand people's comments about connecting in BOM and DEL. As international airports go they are actually quite compact and modern. Sooooo many worst places to connec...
Jump to postWow!! I always thought it would be difficult to unroot SAS from Star, but really happy to see this. It was kind of ridiculous that not only was LH group the largest of the big 3 in Europe, but most of the other European players were in Star as well. This is a much needed re-balancing of alliance ca...
Jump to postWhile I know it isn't scientific, but I did some Expertflyer spot checks on AA's JFK-DEL and the flight seems to be doing well especially in the front. Can't speak about yields or upgrades. So take it for what it's worth. I mostly fly United and they push you to United metal. I assume AA does the sa...
Jump to postI think the new AI 77L have decent utilization. It takes 2 aircraft to operate. AI has 13 hours on the ground in BOM for the JFK-BOM-JFK turn. Don't know what they really could do with the plane other than DEL rotation or maybe DXB. Maybe squeeze in a SIN turn but that would be pushing it for AI IMHO.
Jump to postNot saying AA should move their DEL flight to PHL, but PHL (metro which includes S Jersey) actually has a large Indian population. Not as large as NYC but still fairly large. I think the main reason they won’t move it because AA still have good corporate contracts out of NYC which helps in the front.
Jump to postThe sheer number of Indians living in Canada means the demand for travel between the two countries will always be strong. IMO the only real impact we could potentially see is all the nonstop flights being canceled due to the governments sparring with each other. This will open up opportunities for ...
Jump to postI think AI and AC will be fine because they basically fly nonstops (except AC’s BOM flight). Perhaps prices come down a bit but even if demand is smaller, the nonstops will capture that. Will affect connecting airlines outside of alliances probably the most. One thing on Visas - most Indian origin (...
Jump to postMaybe it didn't get slots for W'23? Not sure if it is about the slots. KLM flies to DEL, BOM and BLR, and on a reciprocal basis AI should be able to fly to AMS and this flight is 4x weekly from DEL now, compared to 17+ flights per week for KLM. If AI is denied then GoI can retaliate. I can confirm ...
Jump to postI feel like a 6pm departure for EWR-Europe gives some more buffer room than a 10pm departure. If the flight gets delayed ~3 hours (not uncommon at EWR, obviously), it’s a little easier to handle earlier in the evening. Tons of airlines have EU flight departing at 9pm NYC-EU and deal with delays etc...
Jump to postSummer 2024 routes should be announced soon shouldn’t they? Seems like most other airlines have announced. Not expecting anything major, probably just a CPH route to respond to AA/DL, maybe a MAN return? I'd personally love to see EWR-OSL come back before CPH, and would give a whole lot to see a se...
