Thanks BCAL, 1979/80 it is then, so my 1974 flight was in the evening of the Comets Commercial life. Wish i had taken a photo with the rego on, I tracked down my first ever flight BAC 111 G-AWWX to storage at Southend.

Whatever people's personal opinions about the 380 may be regarding its looks, one thing is for sure...this isn't an aircraft you can ignore!

Are these ground tests really strict or if the thing starts to feel "ready" during a high speed run can the captain just take off?

Not sure if it still happens but when i lived in Corfu they used to shut the road so the planes could land but hey! much more fun if you keep the road open, eh?  Smile
