Mid 70s, my first RPT flight SYD-WGA-SYD, Airlines of NSW Fokker F27. This "mystery flight" (the cheapest way to buy an air ticket in Australia at the time) was a special treat for my sister and I, and we were taken to the cockpit to say hi to the flight crew on descent into WGA.

Always. That said, checked bags aren’t a big coat in Australia, and are included when travelling overseas. Having larger bags on our US visits means we check bags there, but it’s not a big cost.

It can work as long as utilsation allows enough flex to ensure reliability. TT in Australia was a good example of not getting the balance right, and was reknowned as being an airline you'd only fly if you could afford not getting to your destination on the day you planned.
