I have flown the 340 a few times, and have found it a great plane. I flew the 330 recently and I found it a great plane also. They are sharp looking planes. Of course what an airline does with the interior makes all the difference.
And just ignore Dutchdeltadude. The rest of us do!
SPeedport I never said I wanted to fly for the same rate as owner/empliyees. I said that if that was the "change" they were going to undergo then I did not have sympathy for complaining about these changes. As to putting up with a lot of crap, Iknow you do. It is not easy. But you know, at times it ...
Jump to postIf ANY of the prices above are accurate I withdraw my sympathy for UA owner/emploees. No wonder it is difficult for a FF to upgrade! Maybe UA should start loking at the pax as the most valuable asset.
Jump to postTry what you can for an upgrade. It never hurts. All they can say is no! I am 1 K with UA, and have gotten upgrades with certificates, but I have to say I have NEVER heard my name called out to the desk for a free upgrade. Economy Plus does give more room. Good luck!
Jump to postWith the lower pay of UA employees the travel was a good benefit. It is a shame they are cutting it. The employees are certainly and extremely valuable to the CO. However, even more valuable is the customer. Without the FF there would not be a need for employees. And UA has begun a crazy "penny pinc...
Jump to postUAL1837 what kind of extra training do UA FA's need for international service?
Jump to postEWR is closer to the city then JFK by far. You can now take a train to New York from EWR, and cannot from JFK. On Aer Lingus, to clear customs in Ireland over New York is a great benefit. The lines can be very long in New York. Another good one is Singapore from Amsterdam or Frankfurt. You could hoo...
Jump to postGreat pics! Really beautiful lay out. Thanks for the posting.
Jump to postWe received news today regarding the ability as of January 1, 2003, to accure miles between US/UA towards elites status. Is there any talk of US joining Star Alliance as a full member?
Jump to postCongratulations to him and to all your family! Good luck! You have a right to be very proud.
Jump to postSllven you are correct there. The airline that does taht will really draw pax, and actually have a business plan for the "future". Wonder which bean counter will wake up first and realize that?
Jump to postUALPHLCS you are right on the mark. That is what makes pax coming back. Maybe u should be on the UA Board!
Jump to postVery impressive! It seems as "pax friendly" as UA's C class. Nice to see an airline improving customer service!
Jump to postNot totaly sure but I think:
Aero Peru, Facuett Peru, The Colimbian Airline, VIASA, Lan Peru ???(not sure)
Smart move by UA! It is the first "business" idea I have seen from them in a long time. By not following US, UA jut might pick up some more customers. Maybe Mr Tilden is someone to watch to FINALLY get UA on the track to serve the customer rather then the stupid bean counters at UA. Keep the good id...
Jump to postIf you do not requalify you go back to the bottom. It is a year to year qualifier. I am 1 K and have been for many years. I am sure next year (2003) I will not qualify for 1 K since I will be flying oneworld alot, and will lose all status with UA.
Jump to postStanstead or Luton - Green bus line to Victori and then District or Circle Line to High S Kennsington
Gatwick - Gatwick Express (no traffic concerns) to Victoria then same tube lines.
RayChung it would be nice to think that they are too big an airline, with all those international routes, but Pan AM had loads of international routes (granted no domestic) and TWA had both domestic/itnernational routes, and where are they. Can UA go under? Sure! It is a business. No money, no go! I...
Jump to postI think it looks great! Anxious to see them for real. I wonder though about the screen in the back of the forard seat. It is non adjustable for glare, for sitting or lying down?
Overall, good job!
Congratulations Singapore Airlines! And they definitely deserve the accolades. They are a tremendous airline. I would fly them anywhere I could! As to Midwest Airlines, it is still flying is an excellent airline, the best in the USA. I think you were thinking of Midway Airlines which has ceased oper...
Jump to postThere have been a lot of good points made in some of these posts ( and some not so good). Leadership at UA has been terrible. The pilots really did a lot of harm. Morale among employee/owners nose dived. This was felt by pax. Many, especially FF stopped flying. Service was non existent. The pax felt...
Jump to postIt looks pregnant! Maybe that is where they get 737's from???
Jump to postI think Japan Airline's new livery is terrible. The old was attractive. All Nippon? Is it really a livery? Very plain and boring.
UA's present is so dark and drab!!!
That is a gret fare! Grab it! The ROund the World fares are really great. I do about tree or four a year and they are the cheapest way to go. I do not think you can book them online but have to call one of the airlines of the alliance. They are pretty wuick about it (at least Star is). It gives u th...
Jump to postGlad to hear that Star is finally getting its act together with upgrades. I do not understand why it cannot happen until 2004. Although I fly Star often throughout the world, it does not often work. They do not tell you that there are instances where you cannot check in for two Star Airlines and get...
Jump to postVirgin Flyer - you may be right about those who don't care, but they research other areas of the film, so why not at least try to be accurate on aircraft areas. They could find a lot of their information by just checking on Expedia. Last week a TV station in Florida was talking about a new Holland A...
Jump to post9V-SVE, I may be mistaken but in your post above do you say that there are not the great SLeeperSuites on the SIN-SYD route? I have taken that several times on 747-400 and they have always had the suites. I am really sorry to hear that JNB-SIN will be a 2 class cabin!!!
Jump to postIsn't it intersting how the movies do mess up shots with planes in them. You are right how they will take off in one aircraft and land in another, or have a 737 flying transatlantic. They ( and books) often mess up the times of flights, say like a flight from London to New York arriving in New York ...
Jump to postI have been lucky enough to have flown SQ First class several times. Their First Class is FANTASTIC! THey have GREAT sleeper seats, and the service is tremendous. The experience of SQ First is one you will not forget! Enjoy! By the way even all the long haul SQ 747-400 do not have the suite. On the ...
Jump to postI heard a rumor that USAirways will become a full member of Star Alliance next year. Is there any validity to this rumor?
Jump to postIt could have been a typo, or it can have been something far too common - lack of aviation knowldge by the press and media. They (press) may have thought it was a 707!
Jump to postThis weekend I flew CO rt PHL-IAH. I have not been on CO in a long time, and I have to say I was very impressed. The itnerior of the planes were attractive and clean. The agents were very friendly. THey flight left righ on time. There was even a MEAL at lunch time ( gasp!). They came through the cab...
Jump to postAnd does it talk about the value ($$$) of improved customer service? What about all the 1K who have deserted them? What efforts to winn back/keep FF?
Jump to postBA you are right that the airline industry was taking a dive before 9/11, even though they tend to blame it all on 9/11 and do not admit that they were in trouble before that. Makes it easier for them to get finances. CO and NW might have been in trouble at the time of the Gulf war, but CO came back...
Jump to postAs BA says the peace loving Sadam has accepted the UN Resolution. So, are we confident that the man will of course follow it? Has anyone hurt the airline industry ( and world economy) more then Osama??
Jump to postI wonder if Osama Ben Laden asked ( or cared) about these questions before he "attacked" and started the whole thing??
Jump to postI use to think that only FF flew F class but now I think it is full of airline employees and their families. Do you get the upgrades when u make the reservation or only at the airport when others are accomodated first?
Jump to postKay not sure what aircraft LH will use but UA probably will use 777. They are great airplanes. As to Frankfurt airport if you like plane spotting it is a great airport for that. You can take the tram between terminals and get a great overview of the airport and the field. With that amount of time yo...
Jump to postUALPHLCS you are right about the road outside the new terminal. It is way too narrow. Not only for traffic that drops off pax, but for traffic coming into the airport. It will be a real bottleneck. Of course I believe PHL built another new terminal (F) where you can not stop and pick anyone up, and ...
Jump to postWhen I travel domestic I fly economy, unless I can upgrade with coupons. WHen I travel to Europe I try to book economy and upgrade to C. Several times a year I do Round the World trips and usually fly F. Flying on the Round the World in F can be less money then flying To say South Africa in C. When ...
Jump to postI flew in tonight on US and looked at the terminal. It does not look ready for awhile. It is WAY overdo!
Jump to postThankf for the info on Virgin Atlantic. I don't know why I thought they had their own planes to SYD. Must have been another airport I was in.
Jump to postGood news about the terminal settlement. The "trailers" at SYD for Virgin Blue were some thing else! I am not sure what you meant about "Virgin Atlantic running fuller service flights LHR-HKK-Australia" Doesn't Virgin Atlantic ( not Blue) already do this? I thought for sure I have seen Virgin Atlant...
Jump to postI am flying Air New Zealand from LAX - SYD in First Class. Can anyone tell me what their seats/service are like? Do they have fully reclining seats like other airlines? When I called for the reservation they said seating in First was 2-3-2 on a 747-400. This seems strange for First, more like Busine...
Jump to postORD UA use to have non stop EWR-NRT. They still have EWR-LHR, but not sure if they have any other Int'l
UAPHLCS - very interesting statistics on UA and PHL. CAn you tell us what is the most active Int'l station for UA. Would it be LHR or NRT?
Thanks
