Parked next door is two USCG C-130Js, 2006, 2005
I didn't even know that they had gotten them yet.
Any idea how new off the line they are.
Also, I was told they rolled the trucks here in Anchorage because one of them had declared an emergency? But on landing they instructed fire crews to stay clear of the aircraft.

I had the chance to get inside a USCG -130 Juliet at the Andrews AFB Open House in May. All I have to say is that I've been in a lot of Hercs, but these things are a world away from the older models. You climb up onto the flight deck (which as per usual with the Hercs is huge), and it looks like you've stepped into the flight deck of a 757 or something of the like. Glass cockpit, even the interior back in the hold is modified. Really good-looking birds. Very sharp! The Herc Juliets have been delivered within the last year, from what I can recall when I was chatting with the crew. The new composite props kind of have a wavy bend to them in flight. Also, they're a bit more powerful and maneuverable--which the crew said that it took some getting used to, but they're fun to fly.

Had one on the VR-54 ramp here at NAS New Orleans a few weeks ago, I was quite shocked that they had them as well. I'm not sure which one it was.
