Anyone have any information on the 1982 crash of a USAF KC-135A in Greenwood, IL? All I know is that it exploded in midair and crashed. Anyone from have any idea exactly where it came down or any other info regarding this accident? Thanks.
Not sure if it's the same one but I went to A&P school with a KC-135 crew chief who said they lost one on final due to boost pumps running in an empty tank. The pump(s) overheated and ignited the fuel vapors in the tank.
Also check the 707/KC-135 list at http://www.airlinerlist.com where they have the info and remarks on all the KC-135 fleet there. You may have to d a little searching, but you should be able to gain the serial number from it at least.
