These types of magazines are furnished as per the US Military to ALL pilots. It gives them a chance to work on their eye-hand coordination in a practice non combat environment.

777STL said that only the US fly the F-111... Wrong! The RAAF still have them and they're still allowed to do this!

Looking at the epaulets of the pilot, it's not a US Air Force crew..!!

OK.. So I am going to ask a really stupid question..

The Australians use the same refueling method as the USAF? I thought the USAF were the only people on earth who used the boom system.

An Aussie F-111 can't refuel from a US Tanker? The 111s came from the factory with a slipway IIRC.

I imagine it happened during a joint exercise of some kind. RAF jets get "boomed" occasionally too. USN jets have been known to "probe" a RAF VC-10 or L-1011 on occasion.

We have never used the boom. The F-111 is still being used on carried fuel only. This was primarily not to upset the neighbors since the strike capability of the aircraft was so far above that of near rivals that a tanking ability would create a arms imbalance.
The aircraft do often go to Red Flag and other US exercises and hence tank with the US.
This will change though for about a year after the KC-330s arrive, we will have the ability until the F-111s are retired soon afterwards.

Sure the Aussies have never used their OWN boom(something about having to own one to use it). But obviously this was a joint venture, and the American passing gas took the shot... probably even gave the Aussie F/C the mag and put them up to it..

Oh, BTW, it is a joke. That's why the guy took a picture of it. It's funny, lighten up, especially if you don't know squat about military operations

Yeah, a few years back an entire KC-135 crew got busted for flying a mission in the nude.

Hhmmm, an issue of Penthouse being read by the "weapons officer", while a hard "fuel boom" is being inserted into a a fuel oriface.

So if it had been an Aussie F-18 pilot, going probe and droge it would have been a "Playgirl" instead?

Hardly! Here's a few more. The Netherlands(who by the way have two of their own KDC-10's), Norway, Denmark, Germany, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Turkey, Greece, UAE, Japan, and numerous others who have bought US made jets, namely the F-16.

expressionless  im not even gonna touch that one.

Its not a big deal at all, I remember not long ago in the Anchorage Daily News (adn.com) they were doing a story about riding with a KC-135 crew doing a refueling mission and how the boom operator had dirty pictures posted up in his position in the tail of the plane. Where has our sense of humor gone these days?

Amazing that something as simple as a Penthouse (from an RAAF crew, especially) would get this much response from the PC police.

I guess it's a good thing none of the pictures of "adult magazines" on the boom window that receivers have taken have fallen in the wrong hands. The backlash seems to be as bad as Abu Ghraib!

They must've been too busy "reading the articles" to confirm whether they were civilians or not. It happens to the best of us, I suppose.

all this crap talk is rediculous... A nude magazine is not a reason for deaths in Iraq, or any of that junk.

ANYONE shocked by seeing that magazine must have ZERO exposure to the military. Anyone like myself, as Marine 0311, I know laughed or at least chuckled when they saw that. You're talking about an organization thats mostly males, 18-30, that get deployed all over the world, for long periods of time... mags like maxim and FHM are everywhere, pornos are there too but usually stay hidden a bit  Wink

Get off your PC horse and relax... these guys are professionals, just having a bit of fun. You go to ANY BARRACKS in ANY SERVICE and look in walllockers, in closets, behind doors and you'll see, if not nude pics, at least scantly clad hotties like anna kournikova  Smile And if you think just the guys put up photos, too, you're wrong, and if you think it's just the US military, you're wrong as well... cause I have seen the same in the UK, France and Spain.

It's unbelieveable how far this PC crap has gone, there really is a difference between those related to military service and those not... makes me rethink getting out in a year. These guys would sacrifice themselves at the drop of a hat... for your freedom to spew that PC junk, and you get mad over a joke between services. Amazing. I hope I run into a few of these people when I do get out, that'll be a fun day.

http://www.aviationpics.de/military/1999/military.htm

Scroll down about halfway down the page and check out the F-4 driver mooning his wingman... Click on "Story" to get the details of the event... Wink

I liked the part where they got the Air Force nurse, who was flying as a passenger on the tanker, to do a strip tease and appear butt naked in the boom operator's window! I'll bet the eyes of the two F-4 pilots poppped!  eyepopping  blush  Big grin
