F-14 Vs F-15 Which Sound Better?

Yes another F-14 vs F-15 topic. laughing

I want to post this for while, but there was so many F-14 vs F-15 topic that I just wanted to wait a while before posting it. But hear we go, which fighter sound better Tomcats or Eagles? I herd a few F-15c on Full afterburner at Langley AFB, but I never her a F-14 inperson on full afterbuner. I did hear two F-14 power up in the air, when they did a fly by over NAS Norfolk. I heard from people who got to work with them, say that a F-14 B/D has a lot of base in there engines. Seeing that I did not get to hear a F-14 at full throttle I really can not compair and contrast to two jets. So which one sounds better?

I work on F-15's, so I'll have to say the roar from those F-100-220's is quite nice, I wouldn't trade it for a thing.

But I grew up around Tomcats and Hornets, and the 'Cat is a thing I'll never soon forget. Hearing it throttle up on the catapult, ready to pounce, motors in full burner, is something you'll unfortunately never hear again, but was one of those things that makes you proud to be an American.

Both are capable jets, but the Tomcat always spanked the Eagle at the airshow. The Shah of Iran thought so too.

The Tomcat - any day of the week, and twice on Sunday.

I was at KNBG (NAS JRB New Orleans) for the 1994 N'awlins Airshow, and witnessed an F/A-18A from VFC-12 and an F-14A from VF-101 depart for Oceana. Tomcat passed by about 50' above the deck or so in Phase 5 - made my inner organs rumble (literally)!

Going to be sad to see the Turkey go in September Sad

I'd have loved to hear them IRL. Any of them, but Tomcats are truly something special imho.

given the reliability problems of the TF30 engines of the F-14, F-14s often didn't sound at all Smile

Every time I see these fighter -v- fighter threads I just chuckle. It's like a bunch of A.net weenies saying who's dad could beat up the others dad. In each case a plane brings something to the table, and leaves something behind.

I couldn't agree more. Well said. That goes for many threads, even the ones not titled x vs y. I don't give much about comparing performance between fighters in general. The ones qualified to have a real good say about those things are most likely not prone to express their knowledge in forums like these. And if they were they probably wouldn't keep their jobs.

Asking personal opinions about sound like in this thread is another thing.

Agreed! Exactly what would define "better" anyway? I didn't know one jet sound could be better than a different one, but maybe I just don't get it? Perhaps, the original poster meant to ask which was louder? More ear screeching?

Well that was uncalled for entirely now, wasn't it? Obviously the Tomcat has been retired.. doesn't mean it didn't sound great.

So then why even read it.. the title CLEARLY states what the contents of the thread will be, yet you need to come in and take a dump on some folks who are just having a good time. I don't understand *that* mentality.

at least the Navy had the good sense to retire the Tomcat before they started dropping out of the sky because of the wings letting go...

Well...since they both use the GE F100 I bet if you did a blind sound challenge you could not tell them apart. My point being, they do these threads and try to match up two plane that offer totally different platforms.
