Russia Receives First Su-34

Fri Jan 05, 2007 8:56 pm

See here:

Especially interesting I found this sentence: "The type is expected to stay in production at NAPO for over 20 years, well after the fifth-generation PAK FA fighter is due to enter service."

Long live the Flanker !

Here is an interesting article on PAK-FA Sukhoi T-50

I don't profess to be up with Military Aviation but this is associated with your thread...

I hope they start using them for the northern patrols. Might influence our government to speed-up the much needed replacement of our fighters.

Old news, the first Su-34's were delivered to the AF a little over a year ago. The AF now has half a squadron of them I think.

They will just replace old Su-24s combat bombers. Canada is still a bit far for its goals.  Sorry mate, you'll stay with the old ones

I wouldnt get too concerned the SU-34 is a replacement for the SU-24 both jets are meduim range bombers and used for survalience not as fighter patrol the SU-34 is slow and not as manuverable as the other flanker series. So I doubt they will be used for fighter patrol. Your F-18C's should be able to handle them air to air.

Don't worry, as mentioned above, the Su-34 can only reach canada on a one-way mission. The Tu-160 and 95 on the other hand... Wink
But on a lighter note, now the strike pilots can use the toilet and make a cup of coffee on the Su-34. (It has a small crew rest area behind the cocpit.)

Exactly, something like 10 will be produced every year. Sadly only 58 will be funded!

LOL! what is it's maximum endurance that they decided the pilots need a leisure area?!
