747 In OKC! EDIT: Maybe TWO!?!

Sat Sep 22, 2007 1:11 am

Just got back from Starbucks and as I was driving back to work, I noticed a 747 doing the typical approach pattern into OKC from the North. Actually, I'm in Northwest OKC and the airport is in Southwest OKC so she was heading west above me and made the typical left hand turn to 180 and is on approach now.

I think it is a government aircraft because it had the light blue stripe on it. I can't find anything on flight aware, but I'm pretty sure it was this plane:

Okay, as I was looking that photo up, now there seems to be either ANOTHER one on approach 747-200 with a Red Stripe on it...maybe it's blue, I'm looking out of my office window. Are there TWO of them here now? Or is this just doing repeated approaches?

My damn digital camera isn't at my office otherwise I would step out and take some pics...BLEH!

Any info would be great!

Sorry if I seem a little extatic! But we NEVER get any heavies here and I was just thinking yesterday that the only heavy I ever see is an A310 from FedEx and a 757 from UPS. Once, a long time ago we got Sun Country DC-10's and Omni Air International DC-10s. So this is pretty exciting stuff for us!

BTW, on the FedEx A310 flight, does it come from MEM? I've been seeing it for the past month, arrives around 5:00-5:30 in the afternoon. Before I never saw it, wonder if it is a change?

You guys beat me to it! I just saw it on approach from the antenna farm as it made a giant "S"-turn and went into Rogers. Anyone know why it's here?

HA, exactly what I was thinking! Wonder why these are going to Will Rogers?

If it is just one aircraft, then it's making approach patterns and touch and goes. Give me a few min and I'll keep an eye out if it swings by here again.

Haha, nice what are you doing by the antenna farm? Did you count TWO aircraft or only one?

Side note- the 507th Air National Guard is upgrading to ALL KC-135's since the C-130's left yesterday for Pennsylvania. Could this by some slight chance have anything to do with that?

Only one. I thought it was the E-6B at first then I was like "No way...." sure enough it was the E-4. It didn't show up on flightaware as usual.

Isn't this aircraft the one that always accompanies Air Force One? Airborne Central Command or whatever it's called? I know it's the E-4B

I believe the plane in the picture is the "doomsday plane". Odd that it would land at OKC.

I haven't heard of any national security issues in the news today. Hopefully this is just an excercise.

It might be at OKC instead of Tinker because Heavy, transient aircraft can not to touch and go's or land on 17/35 right now due to the runway construction...

Well, whatever it was, still think the E-4B, it must have landed. It did one swipe at OKC, turned left and did a circle over the city, then came back in from the North, where I am and approached again to OKC, haven't seen anything since.

The E-4B does a lot of Crew training flights but can also be used by Very Senior US Military Personel and Senior Military Poloticians for Secure Transport when not being used to Safe Guard The US National Comand Authority President or Vice President on National or International Visits as a Back for Airforce1

The home Base of the E-4fleet is Offutt Air Force Base so its probably gone home.

Just a note guys- All aircraft (not the 747s, as they are not at Tinker) at Tinker do transition (touch and goes) at Will Rogers. Amarillo and Clinton Sherman are also huge places for transition training. Various reasons include other airfield practice, winds, and BASH. So do not be suprised to see E-3s, KC-135s, and E-6s at KOKC instead of KTIK.

On rare occasion the last few years VC-25 from Crawford has spent some nights at KTIK.
