KC-767 Newspaper Ad?
I was just reading the USA Today sports section while I am waiting for the hotel shuttle and in the page before the college football scores (I believe) was a big full page ad for the KC-767. Now my question is, what is the purpose of this? Obviously they aren't trying to sell it to the American public. In the add, they had little stats about it's effeciency with a little asterisk that shows you these numbers are compared to the KC-30. They also mention how many American jobs and companies it will support. So is the sole purpose of this to stir up some patriotism in hopes local citizens write to their congressman?

Same way I see ads for F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, SAAB JAS-39 Gripen and the Eurofighter in certain Danish magazines all the time. Even if we are probably not going to exchange our F-16s until 2015 or so.

I was in Dayton yesterday driving on the road that goes past Wright-Patterson AFB and noticed some billboards on behalf of the KC-30.

Those billboards have been touting the latest products since my first trip to the USAF Museum in the early 1960s. There were always a few outside the gate at Wright Field more directed at the procurers.
Between Interstate 64 and Scott AFB, headquarters of Air Mobility Command, are a billboard each for the Boeing and Airbus tanker contenders. It always sparked a tongue in cheek debate everytime we drove by them for the week we were flying out of Scott.

I just got back from DC and in the metro they had the two different adds next to one another.

Same thing makes me wonder why Boeing spends millions of TV ads for their product line...Is anyone going to see such an ad and say: "That does it...I think I'll buy a 767 tomorrow?"

You see a lot of these defense-contractor ads in the subway in Washington DC. Especially near the Pentagon station... who knew?

I've wondered that too, but I guess airline CEOs and members of congress watch TV too right? Pretty small market though
