About a week ago, i saw three Cheetahs from the SANDF flyover Durban international Airport (a commercial airport) do a go around and then come into land.
While i know many european airports operate both civil and military aircraft, this is not often the case in SA and certainly is the first time that i have seen it in Durban. Can anyone give anyinfo as to what they were doing there?
(Not holding my breath, i seem to be the only durban based A.net user, but anyone else with info is welcome to comment.)

Yeah...I need to get a woman. First thing that came to mind was a strip club of the same name (Cheetahs.)
Beyond that note, any events in the area that required a flyover? Airshow?

No idea then. Probably a standard training mission or they were low on fuel than they anticipated to reach the original destination.

Might just be a training flight.
We get Chinooks, Merlins, Pumas and occasionaly some fixed wing into the secret Somerset Naval Air Station.
They must be lost :S

It just reminds me of the good old days when I was a young spotter growing up in Beirut, Lebanon ,back in the 1970s.
I used to go to the airport there every weekend with my sandwiches, binoculars and note-pad, to watch the traffic in and out.
The Lebanese Air Force used to operate from a corner of Beirut International Airport, officially referred to as Beirut AFB,
and we used to get the most memorable sights of Hawker Hunters, Mirage-3s. Fouga Magisters, Chipmunks, Doves, as well as assorted helicopters such as Alouette-2s and -3s and Agusta Bell-212s, all going about their business taking-off and landing and doing practice runs, over-shoots, touch-and-goes etc...
Those were the days indeed, when there were no security measures and just free for all shows with no strings attached.
Anyone who can still enjoy such a free ride these days must call themselves lucky.
