RAF Tornados @ YYC

Just saw two RAF Tornados land here at YYC. I know about 6-8 were here last year coordinating with troop movements at CFB Suffield to the southeast of Calgary.

Anyone know how many are coming this year and how long they are staying around?

They are always a welcome addition of some good noise compared to our mainly civilian traffic here at YYC.

We know that the GR4s are replacing the Harriers in Southern Afghanistan, could be something to do with their operational training package.

It is definately an Air/Land exercise with BATUS Suffield. 13 Squadron are the lead Squadron for the deployment.

Thanks for the replies guys. The Calgary Herald ran an article the day after they arrived about whey they were in town. Training with the troops at Suffield.

They just left this morning, 1 VC-10 and the 6 Tornados ripping off in the morning air. An awesome site to see!
