They arrive at 1:50p this afternoon.

TRACON and SFO ATC will be handling the Angels different this year. Arrivals (pending weather) will continue on 28L while the Angels use 28R. This is different from past years where all commercial arrivals held while the Blue Angels arrived. ATC is trying to minimize delays as much as possible.

Here is a release from the Blue Angels.

SAN FRANCISCO -- ?The U.S. Navy's precision flight demonstration team, the Blue Angels, will arrive, in formation, at ?San ?Francisco ?International ?Airport ?on ?Monday, October 6, 2008 at approximately 1:50 p.m. PDT.

Media desiring to photograph/videotape the arrival must be at Airfield Operations Services, Building 1057 (located next to the Executive Terminal) on North Access Road, NO LATER THAN 1:30 p.m. on October 6, 2008 for escort to the airfield viewing area. ?Due to limited airfield escorts, late arrivals shall not be accommodated. ?The North Access Road exit is located adjacent to the US 101/I-380 interchange just north the main SFO exit off of US 101.

The Blue Angels will be conducting familiarization and practice flights on both Thursday, October 9, and Friday, October 10. ?The Blue Angels will perform for the Fleet Week Air Show on Saturday, October 11 and again on Sunday, October 12. ?All flights, both practices and air show, subject to change and cancellation due to weather.

I guess I haven't been hearing much about San Francisco politics lately. Wasn't this show canceled a year or two ago, ostensibly for 'safety' reasons?

After last year's show, there was some discussion of cancelling it, but I reckon that talk didn't lead anywhere....

There has been talk for years, but the overwhelming fact is a majority of the SF population likes Fleet Week. It also generates a lot of money for the city as 300,000 plus people come to the city each day for the events. For a city as strapped for cash as SF, I'd never see the show ending or any mjor allowing it.

OPNL, did you guys get the schedule for the weekend from TRACON? IM me your e-mail and I can send it if not.

Yesterday the team was checking the course out in a Learjet, maybe 2000ft. altitude, just to start building the anticipation. This will be my first year in 10 watching the show from the water and if the weather holds it'll be a beautiful summer day here in the Bay. Anyone know what ships are coming in?

Any details as to what time the Blue Angels are to depart for practice in SF today? How long do they usually do?

Also, does "Fat Albert" practice today and tomorrow?

Thanks.

Looks like they'll be doing a fly-by with a Virgin America A320 - that would be worth seeing:

I'm so excited to be here in San Francisco. I saw the Angles last year that the Indy Air Show, but everything else was kinda lame there. One of my friends who is in the Navy had breakfast with the team yesterday morning before their show.

I was just wondering if anyone else was going to be at fleet week this weekend and the few days after that. My girlfriend surprised me yesterday and told me as we were pulling up to the airport at IND that instead of flying to SEA for the weekend to visit her parents, we were in fact going to SFO for fleet week. This is my first time at fleet week and was wondering if anyone has gone before, or is going this year.

Apparently my girlfriend's uncle is the head of security at SFO or something big like that, and he got us a spot on a Coast Guard Cutter to watch the shows from the boat in the bay on Sunday! Big grin I'm really excited and was wondering what to expect for fleet week. I'll be taking LOTS of photos so I'll post those in the trip report once it's over.
Thanks and have a great weekend!

I was up there today (Saturday), and did one of the boat tours during the show. It was awesome. Definitely a unique Blue Angel-watching experience!

I wa fortunate enough to see them depart SFO on Thursday for their training flights above the city. By the time Sunday came, I didn't bother going to see then as I had seen then on Friday!

Quite a queue had built up at 2:50pm yesterday at SFO just as they were due to take off

They are here in KLRF this weekend! I can't wait to see them! The last time they were here was when Kevin Davis was narrating for them.  Sad He is still missed very much!
