Status Of C-141 Question

Mon Jun 01, 2009 11:57 pm

Anyone here know if all the C-141's have been stripped clean of engines and avionics while they wait for shredding? Is it possible for the US Government to put any of them back into service if they wanted without major spending?

I know that just before they were retired, they spent a lot of money upgrading some of them to the "C" model config. which included a new glass cockpit.

The C-141 fleet was retired and many of the planes have been scrapped. The fleet was tired; the planes had been worked hard and they showed their age. On a positive note, the Air Force definitely got its money's worth out of those noble birds.

Don't know if the C-5 ever engendered the same kind of love and loyalty that the C-141 did, but it could happen.
