I was just wondering how much a fully restored and airworthy B-24 Liberator and B-17 are worth. Does anyone know?

I think a flyable B-17G was sold for 3.5 million US dollars in 2005. There have been some 'project' airframes going for half a million or more. Not sure about a B-24, only 2 still flying.

I heard that there were 3 B-24s still flying, but I could be wrong. I would guess that a B-24 is probably over 6 million, but obviously I don't know or I would not have started this topic.

The Commemorative Air Force has a early LB-30/B-24 flying, while the Collings Foundations has an ex RAF/Indian AF B-24J. I think there are couple more under restoration.

Correct, there are only 3 flight worthy B-24 types, and one is the cargo version (LB-30). I believe there are 9 flyable B-17s around, mostly in the US, including our local B-17G "Chucky" here in Fort Worth.

I get to see the Collins Foundation's B-17 Nine-O-Nine every year doing its annual maintance at EVB (New Smyrna Beach) just 5 miles away, along with its sister B-24 'Witchcraft' and B-25 'Tondelayo'. I've also seen the B-17 'Aluminum Overcast' at local airshows, the B-29 FiFi and the B-24 Strawberry Bitch.
It was weird/cool about 3 weeks ago I was driving back from Miami to my home in Daytona up I-95 around Titusville and up in the distance saw a big 4 engined plane traveling south at a couple thousand feet. First thought was C-130 but it didn't quite fit. Several miles later I finally realized 'holy shit its a B-24!'. I've seen them fly but only when I expected too... at airshows or at that maintance hangar at EVB... never just randomly looked up and saw one. I watched it as long as I could, miles after it had passed me. It made my day.

B-24 'Strawberry Bitch' is in the USAF Museum, in Dayton,OH. It was flown there in 1958/59, and hasn't left. said to be haunted. The Collings Foundation B-24J is now known at 'Witrchcraft', it used to be "the Dragon and hs tail'
The other Liberator is the CAFs LB-30/B-24. For many years it was known as 'Diamond Lil', but after a repaint now is 'Ole 924'.

I'm sure the original Strawberry Bitch is, but there was one so named in 1990. I was working at the Daytona Beach Jet Center as a line service guy when it and FiFi came in (seen FiFi a couple years ago as well at the same airport). Anyhow I'm sure it was either CAF's or Collins one going thru a name phase lol.
Yeah and I got to see Dragon Tail at the TICO (a Valiant Air Command airshow) airshow in the late 90's, didn't mention it because I couldn't remember if it was the Collins one under a former name.
I'll post pix of both over the weekend in this thread, too tired to now.

I saw Strawberry Bitch when I was in Dayton a couple months ago, but I have never seen a B-24 fly. I have however seen Aluminum Overcast and Sentimental Journey fly. I have gotten to walk through both. I work at the Fargo Air Museum, and they try to bring in either a B-17 or a B-25 every year.

I've seen the gorgeous FIFI and the LB-30 here at Stewart. Saw the Collings B-24 airborne over Lancater, PA going from one appearance to another, also thought it was a Herc. The B-24 All American has been at Stewart(another beauty). And the icing on the cake, a gathering of at least five B-17s, a couple of B-25s and a couple of other WWII types at the Mid Atlantic Air Museum air show in Reading, PA at least 12 years ago. Saw the Collings planes next door in the fall, but didn't get in as there were arrival and security problems that day. Takes one's breath away to realize what these aircraft and their crews did to ensure or freedom and liberty.

Is Daivd Talllichet's rescued B-24J that got Bought by Kermit Weeks, and flew to his Fantasy of Flight Aviation still airworthy? I know Mr. Weeks re-restored the B-26, and I thought the B-24 was in line for the same treatment. I know its not a B-24, but anyone know how Lone Star's (I Think) PB4Y Privateer is coming along?

I remember about 10 years ago, I looked up into the sky and I would say at a height of around 2,000ft I saw a 24 and 17 flying over me. It was the first time I had ever seen either plane outside of TV or books etc. Such a great sight.

Some years ago i was in the Netherlands and looked up because I heard some unfamiliar big piston engine sound. It was the BBMF Lancaster on a visit. At another time I saw a B-25 and several times C-47s and the LH Ju-52/3M.

I believe that Kermit Weeks B-24 is still airworthy but not flown. There are 12 airworthy B-17s. Ten here in the US and two in Europe. The Thunder Over Michigan airshow has 7 B-17s booked with the possibility of 2 more. Also has the Collings B-24. It's going to be a great show!

I was down in Pittsburgh about 2-3 years ago and remember seeing a B-24 flying around, I wonder which one it was.
